Britney Spears Has One Major Thing In Common With Angelina Jolie And Kevin Costner When It Comes To Her Divorce

There was sad news out of the Britney Spears camp last week, as it was learned that she and Sam Asghari were headed for divorce after six years together and just over a year of marriage. Rumors of trouble between the two had circulated for months beforehand, particularly after they were both pictured without their wedding rings. As the couple begins to officially part ways, fans can be assured that the embattled pop star is in good hands, as she has one thing in common with Angelina Jolie, Kevin Costner and several other celebrities who have been through the process of ending their marriages.

Britney Spears has retained the services of famed divorce lawyer Laura Wasser, Variety reports, who, along with currently assisting Kevin Costner with his split from Christine Baumgartner, was the Mr. and Mrs. Smith star's lawyer in the early years of her proceedings with Brad Pitt. Wasser has also litigated the end of marriages f or many other celebrities, including Kim Kardashian, Johnny Depp, Maria Shriver and Stevie Wonder. In addition to Wasser, Spears will continue to work with Mathew Rosengart, who was responsible for getting her out of her 13-year conservatorship.

Laura Wasser previously worked with Britney Spears when she was fighting Kevin Federline for custody of her two sons.

Sam Asghari filed for divorce from Britney Spears on August 16 — just 14 months after their fairytale wedding — citing "irreconcilable differences." He is reportedly asking for spousal support and attorney's fees, despite the "ironclad" prenup he signed not entitling him to any such pay-out.

There's an interesting wrinkle, however, in the couple's pre-marriage agreement. Sam Asghari also signed off on a confidentiality clause that would prohibit him from ever talking about anything that happened between him and his wife, or past events of her life that he's become privy to over the course of the last six years. His lawyer is apparently challenging the prenup, and there's allegedly the possibility that Britney Spears will pony up the cash to make the challenge go away.

The situation certainly feels like it has the potential to get ugly, but if anybody is capable of navigating those waters with the "Baby One More Time" singer, it's probably Laura Wasser. The divorce lawyer to the stars may also have to fight through cheating allegations, as Britney Spears and Sam Asghari apparently had a big blowup about a week prior to the divorce filing, after which Spears' husband reportedly moved out.

Other (unsubstantiated) claims that have come out over the past few days include accusations that Britney Spears asked one of her employees to film her naked and that she allegedly attacked Sam Asghari in his sleep.

However, in a statement about the breakup, Britney Spears referenced her own struggles, saying she "couldn't take the pain anymore" and that ultimately the reasons for their split were "nobody's business." While she's not wrong, that fact isn't likely to deter her fans from taking much interest in whatever happens next for the former couple, now that they've lawyered up.

Britney Spears musical to close on Broadway next month: ‘The fairytale is coming to an end’

A Broadway musical inspired by the songs of Britney Spears has announced it will be closing next month.

The production called Once Upon A One More Time officially began running on 22 June this year. It will stage its final show on 3 September.

"The fairy-tale is coming to an end," organisers said in a statement shared to social media. "Final performance [is on] 3 September... come party with us one more time!"

Once Upon A One More Time follows a group of fairy tale princesses, including Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty and Rapunzel, who push back against their traditional "happily ever after" narratives.

It f eatures tracks from Spears' back catalogue including "Toxic", "Work Bitch", "Oops I Did It Again", and "Baby One More Time".

The deal to feature Spears's music was reportedly one of the first signed by the pop star following the end of her conservatorship in November 2021.

News of the musical's closure comes shortly after it was announced that Spears and her husband Sam Asghari are divorcing after 14 months of marriage.

Asghari officially filed for divorce last week, and later issued a statement addressing the split.

Spears broke her silence on the split earlier this week, issuing a heartbroken statement that said she "couldn't take the pain anymore".

The 41-year-old said: "As everyone knows, Hesam and I are no longer togethe ... six years is a long time to be with someone so, I'm a little shocked but... I'm not here to explain why because its (sic) honestly nobody's business.

"But, I couldn't take the pain anymore honestly.

She added: "I will be as strong as I can and do my best. And I'm actually doing pretty damn good. Anyways have a good day and don't forget to smile."

Sam Asghari was seen sans wedding ring less than a month before Britney Spears breakup rumors

Sam Asghari seemingly dropped a major clue that his marriage to Britney Spears was on the rocks in the weeks leading up to their split.

The "Family Business" actor, 29, posted a slideshow on Instagram on July 31 and he was noticeably not wearing his wedding band.

"I'm so Grateful for the love and support you guys had during Mama Asghari's recovery after the accident," he captioned the pictures, without sharing too many details about what led to his mom's hospitalization.

"Sending a huge thank you to the amazing medical staff at Cedars-Sinai ER. Moments like these remind us of life's preciousness. Taking a social media break to prioritize what truly matters. See you very soon."

Lynne Spears commented under the post, "❤️ love this" and no mention was made about the missing ring.

However, Asghari – and even Britney herself – had both not been wearing their wedding bands for months.

In March, the pop icon, 41, went on vacation with her longtime friend and manager, Cade Hudson, and her husband was not present.

Paparazzi snapped both Britney and Asghari in separate locations at the time and they each did not have their rings on.

Asghari's rep exclusively alleged to Page Six at the time, however, that there was no trouble in paradise.

Brandon Cohen reaffirmed to us that his client simply took off his ring because he was "filming a movie."

A few days later, Britney continued to live it up on vacation sans her matrimonial bling.

She posted a video set to Matt Hartke's "London's Song" from her trip to Puerto Rico and notably still had no sparkler on her left hand.

That same week, the "Toxic" singer was seen with a man who we were told was a member of her "security personnel" while at a Starbucks in Dorado, Puerto Rico.

An eyewitness also told Page Six at the time that the alleged bodyguard, who was dressed in a striped T-shirt, a pair of khaki pants and black cap, was overheard speaking in Spanish.

"[He] ordered and [they] left in the same car together," the source added.

Despite all the speculation, Asghari celebrated the couple's first wedding anniversary just two months later.

"Happy 1 year to me & my better half," the former personal trainer wrote alongside a photo of him and Britney wearing their wedding rings. Meanwhile, his wife's Instagram was deactivated during the special occasion.

Earlier on Wednesday, Britney was accused of cheating on Asghari, according to sources who spoke to TMZ.

The married couple reportedly got into a heated dispute over the allegations and an insider noted, "It's only a matter of time before Sam files for divorce."

Asghari and Britney have yet to address their split, which was confirmed by Page Six.

Britney and Asghari tied the knot in a fairytale wedding in June 2022. The couple had been dating since 2016 and stood strong amid the Grammy winner's controversial conservatorship, which was finally terminated in November 2021.

Prior to getting married, the pair signed a prenuptial agreement that a source told Page Six was in the "Gimme More" singer's "favor."

Britney Spears Musical ‘Once Upon a One More Time’ to Close on Broadway

Once Upon a One More Time will play its final Broadway performance Sept. 3.

The musical, which features the songs of Britney Spears and a storyline about fairytale princesses in search of enlightenment, began preview performances at the Marquis Theatre on May 13 and opened June 22. Spears approved the musical and suggested its initial themes. She also signed an underlying rights agreement with the show, which was notably one of the first deals Spears signed since a judge terminated her conservatorship.

The closing notice comes as the musical failed to catch on with critics and with Broadway audiences, with the show reporting capacities in the 50 percent range for the past seven weeks. In the last publicly reported week of grosses, ended Aug. 13, the musical grossed its lowest eight-performance week yet, bringing in $512,008.

Producers James. L Nederlander and Hunter Arnold said there are currently plans underway for a national tour and international productions of the show, which was part of the intent of opening on Broadway. The musical had its world premiere in Washington, D.C., in November 2021.

"We could not be prouder of this beautifully joyous and exhilarating show — which is not only a love letter to Britney's iconic artistry and singular effervescence, but also a brilliant display of the boundless talent of our cast and creative team," Nederlander and Arnold said in a statement. "We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to this dream team of collaborators, performers, designers, staff, crew, and investors who continue to share our passion and joy for this project. As plans take shape for the show's future life around the globe, we're excited to share more news soon!"

The musical was directed by Keone Madrid and Mari Madrid, both of whom also choreographed, and features well-known Spears' hits such as "Oops! … I Did It Again," "Circus" and "Toxic." The book, by Jon Hartmere, follows well-known storybook princesses as they push back against their conscripted "happily ever after" narratives thanks to the questioning of Cinderella and a copy of Betty Friedan's The Feminine Mystique.

Briga Heelan stars as Cinderella opposite Justin Guarini as Prince Charming and Aisha Jackson as Snow White. The musical features Jennifer Simard as the Stepmother, Adam Godley as the Narrator, Brooke Dillman as the Original Fairy Godmother, Tess Solta as Stepsister Betany, Gabrielle Beckford as Rapunzel, Ashley Chiu as Sleeping Beauty, Nathan Levy as Clumsy, Ryan Steele as Prince Erudite, Morgan Whitley as Princess Pea, and Lauren Zakrin as Little Mermaid.

Britney Spears and Sam Asghari Are Posting Through It

The fallout from Britney Spears and Sam Asghari's divorce announcement continued over the weekend with missives from each. As two people who cover the elder-to-young-millennial divide, they've both chosen Instagram, the likeliest medium, for posting through the dissolution of their marriage. Ultimately, their public-facing takes are similar: They are sad it's over and are trying their best. Also, the paparazzi are relentless.

"As everyone knows, Hesam and I are no longer together … 6 years is a long time to be with someone so, I'm a little shocked but … I'm not here to explain why because its honestly nobody's business !!! But, I couldn't take the pain anymore honestly !!!" Spears captioned a video of herself dancing on Instagram on Saturday. "In some sort of telepathic way I have been receiving so many messages that melt my heart from friends and I thank you !!!"

The post continued, "I've been playing it strong for way too long and my Instagram may seem perfect but it's far from reality and I think we all know that !!! I would love to show my emotions and tears on how I really feel but [for] some reason I've always had to hide my weaknesses !!! If I wasn't my dad's strong soldier, I would be sent away to places to get fixed by doctors !!! But that's when I needed family the most !!! You're supposed to be loved unconditionally … not under conditions !!!! So I will be as strong as I can and do my best !!! And I'm actually doing pretty damn good !!! Anyways have a good day and don't forget to smile !!!"

Earlier in the week, Asghari wrote in an Instagram Story, "Shit happens."

The couple started dating in 2017, and Asghari vocally supported Spears through the end of her conservatorship, which she was officially released from in November 2021. He proposed in September 2021, and they were married last June in a small backyard ceremony on Spears's Thousand Oaks property. TMZ reported at the time that a prenup was in place that protected Spears's assets prior to their wedding day.

The posting continued on either side through the weekend, as both are contending with renewed paparazzi interest. Spears is rightfully suspicious that someone leaked her whereabouts in Malibu Canyon and she was followed.

"When you go to meet up with a so called 'friend' and drive an hour for chicken !!!" Spears wrote. "Then you have to wait in the car and need to use the bathroom ... I knew paps were tipped off because the car I was in was never used before … so how was I followed ???"

The rest of her Instagrams were of her "playing" with her "fav boys."

For his part, Asghari also played, though he played dress-up. Donning various wigs, he asked his followers to give him feedback on the best ones for deterring paparazzi.

Britney Spears’s memoir ‘will not be edited to reflect Sam Asghari divorce’

Britney Spears's forthcoming memoir has not been edited to include her split from husband Sam Asghari, according to reports.

On Wednesday (16 August), actor and model Asghari, 29, filed for divorce from the "Stronger" singer , 41, after 14 months of marriage. The divorce filing, which was submitted to the Los Angeles Superior Court, cites irreconcilable differences.

News of the impending divorce arrived just months ahead of the release of Spears's memoir The Woman In Me, which is scheduled for release in October.

While the book will see Spears look back at her career and life, including her years in her conservatorship, it allegedly will not feature her split from Asghari.

Citing sources "with direct knowledge", TMZ reports that the book will be released as it.

The publication claims that Spears g ave her final sign-off to publishers Simon and Schuster two weeks ago, meaning she has "no right to demand any further changes".

The Independent has contacted representatives for Spears, as well as Simon and Schuster, for comment.

Spears's split from Asghari followed months of speculation about the pair, who met in 2016 and married in 2022, and their marriage.

You can read a timeline of their relationship here.

Asghari was the first to speak on the divorce. The day after the filing, the fitness instructor released a statement saying that he and Spears will "hold onto the love and respect" they have for each other, and asking the media and public to be "kind and thoughtful".

He later shared a post to his Instagram Stories donning filters with different hairstyles, in which he asked fans for "help" choosing his "disguise" to hide from the paparazzi.

Spears addressed the split in her own post on Saturday (19 August), writing on Instagram: "As everyone knows, Hesam [Sam] and I are no longer together.

"Six years is a long time to be with someone so I'm a little shocked but … I'm not here to explain why because it's honestly nobody's business !!! But, I couldn't take the pain anymore honestly !!!"

She continued: "I've been playing it strong for way too long and my Instagram may seem perfect but it's far from reality and I think we all know that !!!

"I would love to show my emotions and tears on how I really feel but some reason I've always had to hide my weaknesses… You're supposed to be loved unconditionally … not under conditions !!!!"

The Woman In Me will be released on 24 October.

Rumors Claim Sam Asghari Cheated On Britney Spears Amid Divorce

The Internet is finding irony in allegations that Britney Spears cheated on Sam Asghari with a house employee, which led to their divorce.

It's unclear how much truth there is to the rumors, as the 41-year-old pop star has not even addressed reports of their divorce. Instead, she took to Instagram to tell her followers that she planned on buying two horses that she named Roar and Sophie.

Morgan Osman Posted A Photo Kissing Sam Asghari AFTER He Started Dating Britney Spears! MEGA

Sam and Britney started dating on the set of her "Slumber Party" music video in 2016. They became engaged in September 2021, shortly before her conservatorship ended in November 2021, and tied the knot in June 2022 at her Thousand Oaks estate.

However, all the way back in January 2017, a "Bad Girls Club" alum alleged that she was having an affair with the "Special Ops: Lioness" actor. Even though it was many years ago, fans still can't forget how Femme X MB designer Morgan Osman posted and deleted a photograph of her kissing Sam Asghari. And she didn't just post it. She actually went out of her way to tag the pop star on Instagram.

"I have video and images of our REAL relationship. Britney he is using you, she told The Dirty at the time. "I don't know why everyone is attacking me, Sam Asghari is the cheater. I feel sorry for Britney Spears, she seems like a good person."

In October, Britney appeared on The Jonathan Ross Show and lamented that "a lot of men are about games" in comments transcribed by the Daily Mail. "It's just the mind game with guys, the calling back and texting, it's just too much, it's silly. Actually, I'm not looking for men right now, I'm really happy with myself. I'm not looking for anything, I'm fine with the way I am," she said at the time.

Although Sam has alleged that Britney cheated on him with an employee who worked in the home, a lot of fans are not buying it. One Britney fan took to TikTok to share her own thoughts on "Sam the Snake." She brought up Morgan Osman and the comments that she made in 2017, adding the additional claim that Sam was really working for Britney's father during the conservatorship.

Many fans have expressed concern for Britney online and felt that, even though she was legally freed from her conservatorship in November 2021, she was still being controlled by Sam. He denied those rumors in December 2022. In a lengthy statement posted to his Instagram Stories, he wrote, "She has her voice and is a free woman. I have respect for her privacy and I protect it at all times."

Fans Don't Believe That Sam Can Really Embarrass Britney Spears!

However, on Wednesday night, a source told Page Six that the 29-year-old actor is reportedly "attempting to negotiate concessions beyond his prenup and threatening to go public with extraordinarily embarrassing information about Britney unless he gets paid."

The comment has since been raising a few eyebrows, with fans pointing out that you can't "embarrass" Britney – especially given the mental health breakdowns she had that led to her conservatorship. "She's been embarrassed enough times. I feel like she's immune to being embarrassed," she says in the TikTok, echoing a comment made by many fans: "All we want to know is if she's alive and well and that's it."

On Thursday, a source told TMZ that Sam had accused the Princess of Pop of asking a staff member to film a video of her without clothes on. Britney shares a lot of unclothed photos and videos on her Instagram page, so this didn't come as a surprise to most fans.

The insider also alleged that Britney "hooked up with at least one of the male staff members" in the home and was caught in a "compromising position." However, it doesn't come right out and say that she had intercourse with the staff member.

Following reports that Britney cheated on him, Sam took to his Instagram Stories to leave a short statement. "We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other and I wish her the best always. Sh*t happens. Asking for privacy seems [ridiculous] so I will just ask for everyone including media to be kind and thoughtful."

In addition to cheating allegations, there have also been reports that Britney "attacked" the actor in his sleep and gave him a black eye. Sources also said that she left him with bruises and bite marks after a fight, which seems far more concerning than accusations of infidelity that are currently going viral online. Many fans have made it clear that they don't believe the allegations, but either way, it looks like Sam is not going to get any money from the divorce if that was his intention all along.

Asghari's rep, Brandon Cohen from BAC Talent, also addressed rumors about the split in a statement to PEOPLE.

"There are many claims that Sam is challenging the prenup and threatening to exploit his ex-wife with videos," he said. "However, all these claims are false, as no negative intention has ever been directed towards her and never will be. Sam has always and will always support her."

A rep for Spears has not responded to requests for comment.

Spears, 41, has yet to directly share her thoughts regarding the breakup. But hours after PEOPLE reported that Asghari had filed for divorce on Wednesday, the singer made her first post to Instagram — to announce her plans to purchase a horse.

"Buying a horse soon 🐴 !!! So many options it's kinda hard !!!" Spears shared with her 42 million followers while posing on horseback.

However, there was no mention of her estranged husband in the post.

One source exclusively told PEOPLE, the singer remains "in great spirits despite everything going on."

According to documents obtained by PEOPLE on Thursday, Asghari's divorce filing cited irreconcilable differences as their reason for divorcing and includes July 28 as their date of separation.

In the filing, the model is requesting spousal support from the pop star and that she pay the legal fees. The filing also states that Asghari "reserves the right to amend" petitions over property and community assets.

The couple first met in 2016 on the set of Spears' "Slumber Party" music video set and eventually married in June 2022.

But in February, sources told PEOPLE that Spears' inner circle had "grown concerned."

Rumors began circulating in March that the couple were having marital struggles — but Asghari's rep shut them down at the time.

When addressing photos that showed Asghari and Spears without their wedding bands, Cohen told PEOPLE that Asghari simply took off his ring because he was filming a movie.

Britney Spears Breaks Silence On Her Divorce From Sam Asghari: ‘I’ve Been Playing It Strong For Way Too Long'

This past week, the public was hit with the news that Britney Spears and Sam Asghari are heading for divorce after a year of marriage. A number of follow-up reports have surfaced in the aftermath, many of which regard alleged details pertaining to the legal ramifications of the situation. At the same time, Asghari himself spoke out about the split, essentially confirming it and getting real about the end of this chapter of his life. Now, Spears has broken her silence, and she was quite candid while sharing her thoughts. She used the time to be open with her followers, saying that she's been "playing it strong for way too long."

Known for being quite active on social media, Britney Spears took to Instagram to discuss the dissolution of her marriage to Sam Asghari. Her post included a lengthy caption that began with her pointing out the obvious before she thanked her fans for their support. She also got candid about her life not being as glamorous as some people may be led to believe. Needless to say, the star didn't mind being vulnerable:

As everyone knows, Hesam and I are no longer together … 6 years is a long time to be with someone so, I'm a little shocked but … I'm not here to explain why because its honestly nobody's business !!! But, I couldn't take the pain anymore honestly !!! In some sort of telepathic way I have been receiving so many messages that melt my heart from friends and I thank you !!! I've been playing it strong for way too long and my Instagram may seem perfect but it's far from reality and I think we all know that !!!

The 41-year-old Grammy winner went on to discuss how during tough situations, she's had to put on a brave face – and sometimes go without the support of her family. Despite her current circumstances though, she seemed to indicate that their not bringing her down:

I would love to show my emotions and tears on how I really feel but some reason I've always had to hide my weaknesses !!! Anyways have a good day and don't forget to smile !!!

The post also included one of the songstress' signature dance videos. You can check out the clip for yourself down below:

It goes without saying that Britney Spears has seen her fair share of peaks and valleys over years. (Some of the latter are linked to the allegations she's made against the Spears family.) Her latest marriage alone was filled with ups and downs but, if her message is any indication, she seems to be handling this latest development well.

The high-profile split was allegedly set in motion after Sam Asghari approached his spouse about cheating rumors. Sources say the confrontation became tense and that Asghari ultimately moved into his own place. As his wife initially shared an update on her plan to buy a horse, Asghari referenced the split directly on his Instagram stories. He said that while he and his wife had decided to "end our journey together," they would "hold onto the love and respect we have for each other." Meanwhile, there are still plenty of questions about the logistics of the divorce. Asghari and his spouse have a prenuptial agreement, but there's still a chance he could end up with a pay out, pending a "challenge" from his legal team.

Whether or not Britney Spears chooses to provide further updates remains to be seen, but her fans are sure to find some comfort in the fact that she's doing "pretty damn good" right now. As of right now, it's also unclear just how long it'll take Spears and Sam Asghari to finalize their divorce. We can only hope that they get the space they need to work out the arrangement and ultimately move on with their lives.

Britney Spears comments on split from Sam Asghari. Why did he file for divorce?

Britney Spears' husband, Sam Asghari, cited irreconcilable differences in his divorce petition against her.

The 29-year-old Iranian model and fitness trainer is also seeking spousal support and to end Spears' ability to receive support, according to documents filed to Los Angeles Superior Court that NBC News obtained.

Spears broke her silence about the divorce on Instagram Aug. 18.

"As everyone knows, Hesam and I are no longer together," she said. "6 years is a long time to be with someone so, I'm a little shocked but … I'm not here to explain why because its honestly nobody's business !!! But, I couldn't take the pain anymore honestly !!!"

On Aug. 17, after news broke of his petition for divorce, Asghari posted a statement to his Instagram story addressing the split.

"After 6 years of love and commitment to each other my wife and I have decided to end our journey together. We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other and I wish her the best always. S--- happens. Asking for privacy seems rediculous (sic) so I will just ask for everyone incl uding media to be kind and thoughtful."

A spokesperson for Asghari gave NBC News the following statement after the actor's Instagram post went live:

"There are many claims that Sam is challenging the prenup and threatening to exploit his ex-wife with videos. However, all these claims are false, as no negative intention has ever been directed towards her and never will be. Sam has always and will always support her."

The news comes after 14 months of marriage. The pair — who met in 2016 after Asghari portrayed the pop star's love interest in her music video for "Slumber Party" — wed in June 2022 after years of dating. This was the 41-year-old pop star's third marriage.

The pair had spoken about their love and relationship over the past years, but now that fairy tale is over.

Here's what we know about Asghari and why he filed for divorce.

The actor cited 'irreconcilable differences' as the reason for the split

Asghari listed July 28, 2023 as the date of separation.

Asghari's petition, which was filed on Aug. 16, asks that Spears pay for his attorneys fees.

"Petitioner specifically requests that, with respect to any issue submitted to the Court for determination, the Court include in the Statement of Decisi on any and all calculations upon which the determination of any issue was made, including, but not limited to, issues of spousal support, property valuation, property division, tax consequences and attorney's fees" the filing reads.

Britney Spears breaks silence on her ‘pain' amid Sam Asghari divorce

If U seek Britney Spears' reaction to her divorce, here it is.

One day after her estranged husband Sam Asghari—born Hesam Asghari—confirmed their breakup, the "Toxic" singer addressed the situation with her own message.

"As everyone knows, Hesam and I are no longer together," she wrote on Instagram Aug. 18. "6 years is a long time to be with someone so, I'm a little shocked but … I'm not here to explain why because its honestly nobody's business !!! But, I couldn't take the pain anymore honestly !!!"

The 41-year-old went on to share how she had been "playing it strong for way too long" in private and noted that what she posts on social media "may seem perfect but it's far from reality."

"I would love to show my emotions and tears on how I really feel but some reason I've always had to hide my weaknesses !!!" she continued. "You're supposed to be loved unconditionally … not under conditions !!!! So I will be as strong as I can and do my best !!! And I'm actually doing pretty damn good !!! Anyways have a good day and don't forget to smile !!!"

For his part, Asghari previously hinted at what went wrong, writing in an Aug. 17 Instagram Story, "S--t happens."

"After 6 years of love and commitment to each other my wife and I have decided to end our journey together," the Black Monday actor added. "We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other and I wish her the best always."

In lieu of asking for privacy, which Asghari admitted "seems rediculous [sic]" given their lives in the spotlight, the 29-year-old requested in his statement "for everyone including the media to be kind and thoughtful."

Spears and Asghari were married for a year before reports of the pair's separation came to light on Aug. 16. At the time, a source familiar with the situation told NBC News, "They're separated and it's best for Britney."

The pair, who first started dating in 2016, got married in June 2022 in an intimate Los Angeles ceremony. Spears marked the occasion in a since-deleted Instagram post, in which she said she was "so nervous all morning" before walking down the aisle.

"The ceremony was a dream and the party was even better," she captioned her post. "I think we all fell on the dance floor at least 2 times !!! I mean come on … we were all VOGUING !!! @SamAsghari I LOVE YOU !!!"

Britney Spears says she ‘couldn’t take the pain anymore’ as she addresses divorce from Sam Asghari

CNN  â€"

Britney Spears has shared some thoughts about her split from Sam Asghari.

The entertainer posted a dance video to her verified Instagram on Friday night, and in the caption, she wrote, “As everyone knows, Hesam and I are no longer together,” using her estranged husband’s birth name.

Spears went on to write “6 years is a long time to be with someone so, I’m a little shocked but … I’m not here to explain why because its honestly nobody’s business!”

“But, I couldn’t take the pain anymore honestly,” she continued, later adding, “I’ve been playing it strong for way too long and my Instagram may seem perfect but it’s far from reality and I think we all know that !!! I would love to show my emotions and tears on how I really feel but some reason I’ve always had to hide my weaknesses!”

The “Everytime” singer also addressed her father â€" who held her in a conservatorship for over a decade until 2021 â€" in the post.

“If I wasn’t my dad’s strong soldier, I would be sent away to places to get fixed by doctors !!! But that’s when I needed family the most,” she wrote, adding, “You’re supposed to be loved unconditionally … not under conditions!”

Toward the end of her message, Spears assured followers she “will be as strong as I can and do my best!”

The video showed the pop icon wiping sweat before dancing to Janet Jackson’s “If” while wearing a black top, neon green thong and black boots. The clip is similar to several dance videos found on her feed.

Asghari and Spears first met in 2016 when he co-starred with her in the music video for her song “Slumber Party” on the album “Glory.”

They wed in June of last year, seven months after the court-ordered conservatorship Spears had been under for 13 years was ended by a Los Angeles judge in a landmark court hearing, in November 2021.

Asghari filed a petition to end the marriage with the Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday, citing “irreconcilable differences,” according to a copy of the filing obtained by CNN. The date of separation for the couple is July 28, the petition states.

Britney Spears ‘alone in her house,’ without support system after Sam Asghari alleges abuse, files for divorce: report

With her husband Sam Asghari moving out, filing for divorce and reportedly threatening to spill dirt about their marriage, Britney Spears' has been left alone in her house without anyone close to support her through her latest personal crisis, a report says.

Before things got ugly between them, the 29-year-old Asghari was Spears' "strongest supporter" as she tried to rebuild her life after she was freed from a 13-year conservatorship, sources told TMZ. But now that the actor and personal trainer has alleged that she Spears, 41, frequently "got physical" with him and even gave him a black eye while he was sleeping, TMZ also reported. He now is "fully out of her life," Spears, 41, has no other family to lean on, with sources telling TMZ that "she just isn't capable of handling things on her own."

Spears is not on speaking terms with her mother, Lynne Spears, after an attempted reconciliation in May turned "sour," TMZ said. It's also well known that she's estranged from her father and siblings, while her teenage sons, Jayden and Sean, recently moved to Hawaii with their father, Kevin Federline, without saying goodbye.

"She has one confidant, (her manager) Cade (Hudson)," a source told TMZ. "Then there's her security team, and after that her support system falls off a cliff."

While Spears' mother and other family members are reportedly worried from afar, the singer posted a curious message on Instagram Wednesday amid the divorce news. Sharing a photo of herself on horseback, the pop star said she was thinking about buying a horse but couldn't decide between one called Sophie or another called Roar.

"I can't make up my mind!!!" Spears said on a post, which could be her way of laughing off the public's fascination with her divorce news. Others could wonder if she's in a state of denial. In another curious move, Spears turned off the comments on her Instagram.

News broke Wednesday that Spears and Asghari had separated after just 14 months of marriage. Sources told TMZ that Asghari moved out last week after "a blowout fight" in which he accused Spears of cheating — though it's unclear whether there is any validity to those claims. Asghari subsequently filed for divorce.

Back in May, Asghari vigorously defended the singer and denied there was any trouble in their marriage. He was responding to a scathing TMZ documentary, "Britney Spears: The Price of Freedom." The documentary claimed that Spears spends most of her time "at home by herself," lives "in virtual isolation" and see-saws between days of sleeping and not sleeping. The documentary also alleged that Spears would get physical with Asghari during screaming matches, which led to him no longer spending much time at their house.

Asghari was quick to slam the "disgusting" documentary — and those involved in its creation — for trying to use Spears "as a money-making machine," Page Six reported.

But now Asghari is gone from Spears' life. The singer may be able to at least rely on some professional support from Laura Wasser, the powerhouse celebrity divorce attorney she has reportedly hired to handle her split from Asghari.

Page Six reported that the divorce is likely to "turn nasty," given that Asghari is "attempting to negotiate concessions beyond his prenup and threatening to go public with extraordinarily embarrassing information about Britney unless he gets paid."

Wasser is currently defending Kevin Costner, whose estranged wife Christine Baumgartner is challenging the terms of a prenuptial agreement she signed back in 2004.

The family law attorney also represented Spears when she was fighting Federline for custody of their sons back in 2008 — though a judge ending up giving Federline custody due to the singers' erratic behavior and mental health breakdown, which led to her being placed in the conservatorship.
