Britney Spears thanks Janet Jackson 'for keeping my dreams and heart alive' amid ongoing feud with ex Justin Timberlake

Britney Spears publicly thanked fellow pop star Janet Jackson on Sunday 'for keeping my dreams and heart alive.'

'She's always been the deepest and brightest woman at the same time,' the 42-year-old Grammy winner - who boasts 117.3M social media followers - wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post.

'She went through so much but I feel she is someone I will look up for for the rest of my life. Thank you for your music and your divine way of untangling intelligence to a far more clear view than anyone could ever imagine.'

Britney and the 57-year-old Rhythm Nation star currently follow each other on Instagram, but it's unclear if they've ever actually met.

Back in 2001, Spears performed with Janet's late, great brother during the CBS special Michael Jackson: 30th Anniversary Celebration during which they sang his 1987 hit The Way You Make Me Feel.

Thank you for your music and your divine way of untangling intelligence to a far more clear view than anyone could ever imagine'

However, the Hold Me Closer hitmaker and Jackson have both been wronged by the same man, Justin Timberlake.

In 2004, the 43-year-old pop star 'accidentally' exposed the five-time Grammy winner's breast plate at the climax of her headlining gig at the 2004 Super Bowl Halftime Show.

The term 'wardrobe malfunction' was coined as a result of the scandal and Viacom CEO Les Moonves had Janet's music and vi deos blacklisted from CBS, MTV, and radio station group Infinity Broadcasting.

And while both Jackson and Timberlake issued public apologies for their nipple-flashing duet of Rock Your Body, his career remained unscathed while hers suffered.

Meanwhile, Britney and Justin - who dated between 2000-2003 - originally met as children starring as Mouseketeers on The Disney Channel's The Mickey Mouse Club from 1993-1994.

In Spears' 2023 memoir The Woman In Me, she revealed that the Selfish singer urged her to have an abortion when they unexpectedly became pregnant.

'It was a surprise, but for me, it wasn't a tragedy. I loved Justin so much. I always expected us to have a family together one day. This would just be much earlier than I'd anticipated,' the Mississippi-born singer wrote.

'But Justin definitely wasn't happy about th e pregnancy. He said we weren't ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young. If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it. And yet Justin was so sure that he didn't want to be a father. To this day, [the abortion was] one of the most agonizing things I have ever experienced in my life.'

At that, Spears deleted her prior apology to the 10-time Grammy winner and instead wrote: 'Someone told me someone was talking s*** about me on the streets! Do you want to bring it to the court or will you go home crying to your mom like you did last time? I'm not sorry!'

Britney Spears claims she once made out with Ben Affleck: ‘I honestly forgot’

Britney Spears revealed she once made out with Ben Affleck "years ago."

The "Toxic" songstress recalled the hookup as she took to Instagram Wednesday to share a black-and-white snap of herself posing alongside the "Gone Girl" star and songwriter Diane Warren in 1999.

"Cool pic of me and Ben Affleck and Diane Warren years ago 😂😂 !!!" she wrote.

"He's such an amazing actor. Did I fail to mention I made out with Ben that night … I honestly forgot … damn that's crazy!!!"

The singer continued, "Wish I could tell you guys the story that happened before that !!! Oh dear, I'm just being a gossip girl 🤓😏 !!! Psss I actually forgot 😏😉😂😂😂 !!"

Reps for Affleck did not immediately respond to Page Six's request for comment.

Spears' brief fling with Affleck, 51, may have played out before the Princess of Pop started dating Justin Timberlake that same year.

The "Gimme More" songstress, 42, and the *NSYNC member, 43, sparked romance rumors in the spring of 1999, despite Spears telling Rolling Stone at the time that she had "no feelings at all" for Timberlake and was solely focused on her career.

However, several news outlets later confirmed their relationship.

The two parted ways in 2003 following accusations of infidelity on both sides and an abortion, which Spears detailed in her 2023 memoir, "The Woman in Me."

The "Circus" hitmaker later found love with Kevin Federline — whom she was married to from 2004 to 2007 — and they welcomed two sons together.

She went on to wed Sam Asghari in June 2022. However, he filed for divorce a little over a year later.

As for Affleck, he was dating Gwyneth Paltrow on and off between 1997 to 2000 at the time of his alleged hookup with Spears.

The Goop founder, 51, reflected on her three-year relationship with Affleck during a 2015 interview with Howard Stern, admitting  that "he was not in a good place in his life to have a girlfriend."

After his breakup from Paltrow, the "Argo" star was publicly single for two years before moving on with his now-wife, Jennifer Lopez.

However, they postponed their wedding due to the "excessive media attention" surrounding their big day before eventually calling it quits in 2004, per People

Affleck and Lopez, 54, found their way back to each other in 2021 and tied the knot in July 2022.

20 Years Ago, Britney Spears’ “Toxic” Music Video Look Broke The Internet

The name Britney Spears has so much cache: princess of pop, Y2K inspiration, and now, bestselling author. Sartorially, her name rings even clearer visions. "Britney Spears" is practically synonymous with a few iconic looks: the denim dress she wore alongside Justin Timberlake, her "...Baby One More Time" cardigan, her 2001 MTV VMAs snake performance ensemble — the list goes on.

No look, however, is more quintessentially Britney than her "Toxic" music video 'fit. You know the one: the diamond-clad naked look that caused jaws to drop the world over. The ensemble is so iconic, in fact, it's still one of her most celebrated today. Jessica Alba, for instance, referenced the outfit last Halloween in a crystal-encrusted bodysuit.

Let's take a look back on fashion history, shall we?

Britney's Crystal-Covered Look

On January 13, 2004, Spears released "Toxic" and the music world was never the same — nor was the fashion world, for that matter. If you recall, Spears was moonlighting as a secret agent in the video, going undercover as a flight attendant and jumping through laser beams to reach her target.

In between her fictional super-spy narrative, however, she wore what would outshine even her stewardess look. It involved barely any clothing — just diamonds and a little white thong.

Her lone apparel item — if you can call it that — was a slinky white G-string. The rest of her look was all bling. Crystals of all sizes were tacked to her body — from her arms, to her torso, all the way down to her feet. The effect was incredible: Spears glistened with every choreography change.

FYI: That's Not A Bodysuit

In case you were wondering, yes, she actually is naked. In an October 2016 appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show, Spears stunned audiences when she explained she wasn't wearing a see-through bejeweled catsuit, as fans assumed.

"That's not actually an outfit. Those are just hand diamonds painted on me. Well, glued on me," she told the host.

Oops, She Did It Again...

Those familiar with Britney lore, likely already clocked that the 'fit looks familiar. That's because it wasn't her first crystal-covered see-through rodeo. Her "Toxic" look was just a more scantily-clad iteration of her outfit from the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards.

For her debut VMA performance, Spears wore a flesh-tone bra and sheer pants with a built-in whale tail. Both co-ord pieces were covered in sparkly rhinestones for a fashion déjà vu.

Britney Spears stans send 2011 song 'Selfish' up the charts to troll Justin Timberlake's comeback single

Hell be not as petty as a Britney stan scorned.

Justin Timberlake paused his long-running apology tour to release what for all intents and purposes is his comeback single, "Selfish."

But in an act of pure pop pettiness, fans of ex-girlfriend/superior pop star Britney Spears have decided to drive her 13-year-old song of the same name up the charts.

The push apparently stemmed from a tweet by the Britney stan account on X (formerly Twitter), touting the "release" of "Selfish," a track from the deluxe version of Spears' 2011 album Femme Fatale.

The song entered the top 40 of the U.S. iTunes chart earlier today and as of this writing is threatening the top 10.

According to the Britney fan account BritneyxYtube this all "started as a joke" when Timberlake announced his new single, off his first album in five years, the upcoming Everything I Thought It Was.

"Then we all joined in, saying that Britney Spears was coming back with a 'brand' new song," BritneyxYtube tells EW. "I still can't believe that it became so big, and we see the results we see now."

They added,  "We are all so happy to see her song making a come back after all these years!!!"

Spears recently confirmed that she has no plans for a comeback of her own, writing on Instagram earlier this month that she "will never return to the music industry," in response to rumors she had enlisted artists like Charli XCX for a new album.

As for Timberlake, the tides have turned against the once golden boy of pop, after his past actions against Spears — as well as the pop blueprint Janet Jackson (never forget) — were re-evaluated through a contemporary lens.

And then the publication of Spears' memoir last year, The Woman in Me, revealed some ugly truths about hers and Timberlake's relationship, such as the abortion he urged her to have and his manipulation of the narrative around their break-up with the "Cry Me a River" video.

While Britney may have moved on, her fans are still carrying a grudge. But that won't stop Timberlake, who will perform his "Selfish" on Saturday Night Live this weekend as the musical guest with host Dakota Johnson.

Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake's Relationship: A Look Back

In the early 2000s, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake seemed to be a modern-day fairy tale.

After first crossing paths as preteens on the set of The Mickey Mouse Club, Spears and Timberlake later reunited in the late '90s as they launched their pop star careers — Spears as a solo artist and Timberlake in the boy band *NSYNC.

When the pair began dating in 1999, their young love story was a constant subject of public fascination and became even more so when they split in spring 2002. Following their public breakup, the scrutiny of the former couple only intensified, with Timberlake penning revenge music.

In 2007, however, Timberlake told Oprah Winfrey, "There's no ill will — I have nothing but love for her. She has a huge heart, and she is a great person."

And in recent years, Spears has shared videos of her dancing to her ex's music on social media.

Here is a look back at Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake's relationship.

Spears and Timberlake first met when they were cast in the '90s revival of The Mickey Mouse Club, along with future stars JC Chasez, Ryan Gosling and Christina Aguilera. Though they were both just 11 years old at the time, the young performers had an instant connection — and Timberlake was even Spears' first kiss.

The pop star recalled the moment, which occurred at a sleepover with her castmates, in her 2023 memoir, The Woman in Me. "[Once] at a sleepover, we played Truth or Dare, and someone dared Justin to kiss me. A Janet Jackson song was playing in the background as he leaned in and kissed me," she wrote.

Spears had equally fond memories of the Mickey Mouse Club set. "It was a really good time," she said in 2018. "It was a great time. It was probably one of the most special times in my life."

Timberlake has also said of meeting Spears, "I was in love with her from the start. I was infatuated with her from the moment I saw her."

1999: Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake begin dating

Spears and Timberlake reunited in late 1998 when she opened for *NSYNC on their *NSYNC in Concert tour — and they began fielding relationship questions almost immediately. In April 1999, Spears denied the rumors to Rolling Stone.

"Overseas, they say it's Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys," she told the outlet. "I have no feelings at all."

But Spears would later reveal Timberlake asked her out prior to the release of her debut album in January 1999.

"He definitely asked me out. We were doing a radio show, and this was before Baby One More Time came out ... He knocks on the door and he was like, 'Can I see Britney?' And [my assistant] Felicia [Culotta] didn't know who he was and she was like, 'No ... Who are you?' And I was like, 'No! It's Justin!' " Spears later recalled in a interview with Andi Peters.

September 7, 2000: Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake take their relationship public

After denying romance rumors for months, Spears and Timberlake made their debut as a couple at the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. Though they walked the red carpet separately — Timberlake with *NSYNC and Spears solo — the pair sat together during the show and were openly cuddling and affectionate.

Their confirmed romance wasn't the only thing that set the world abuzz, though — Spears' iconic VMAs performance, featuring a mashup of "Oops!… I Did it Again" and The Rolling Stones' "Satisfaction," and her sparkling nude ensemble, were also hot topics.

At the 2001 American Music Awards, Spears and Timberlake hit the red carpet in their now-infamous matching denim ensembles. According to designer Steven Gerstein, the denim gown-and-suit combo was the couple's idea.

"It was such a no-brainer. Justin and Britney were dating at the time. We were in New Orleans when Britney and Justin were like, 'We're doing matching denim,' " Gerstein recalled in 2020. "It was kind of like their prom. They had an idea, and we did what they wanted as opposed to the other way around. The rest is history."

Timberlake also recalled the denim-on-denim look fondly. "You do a lot of things when you're young and in love," he said of their get-up.

Spears and Timberlake, as part of *NSYNC, performed together at the Super Bowl halftime show, alongside Aerosmith, Nelly and Mary J. Blige. *NSYNC and Aerosmith headlined, performing hits like "Bye Bye Bye" and "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing," and were later joined by Spears, Blige and Nelly for a rendition of "Walk This Way."

Backstage at the Super Bowl, Spears acknowledged her relationship with Timberlake. "It's a little hard, but you know what, it's all about trust," she told Entertainment Tonight. "He loves me and I love him and we just try to work it out."

July 29, 2001: Britney Spears supports Justin Timberlake at *NSYNC charity event

Spears supported Timberlake during *NSYNC's third annual Challenge for the Children charity event, as reported by Billboard. The charity event concluded with a celebrity basketball game, where Spears and Timberlake wore matching jerseys featuring their nicknames for each other: Pinky and Stinky.

Spears later told Oprah the origin of their pet names. "I have a ring that he gave me that I wear on my pinky so he started calling me Pinky, and then I started calling him Stinky for some reason, so that's our nicknames!" she said, according to Billboard.

Spears' performance of "I'm a Slave 4 U" at the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards involved several live exotic animals — including a tiger that accompanied her entrance and a 7-foot albino Burmese python draped over her shoulders. Though Spears didn't appear rattled during the performance, she later revealed that Timberlake had to give her a "pep talk" to calm her nerves before she took the stage that evening.

"I will tell you this ... before I went on that night I was feeling kinda out of body with nerves," she wrote on Instagram. "I mean ... I was in a cage with a live lion 🦁😳 !!!!! Justin saw I could hardly talk so he held my hand and gave me a 5 minute pep talk which obviously worked."

In an interview with The Guardian, Spears shared that her and Timberlake's busy schedules often kept them apart — but when they were together, they lived at her house in L.A. Spears also opened up about their two-year relationship to the outlet, revealing that he still gave her butterflies.

"I'm not ashamed at all to say that I love him from the bottom of my heart. As far as love is concerned, with him, too much is not enough. He's everything," she said.

She added: "With him, it's still the same as I felt two years ago. But it is a deeper love now than when I was younger. Like, we've gone through so much together and we've known each other since we were 12 years old. We know each other inside and out."

November 2001: Justin Timberlake writes and produces a song on Britney Spears' third album

Spears and Timberlake collaborated on the song "What It's Like to Be Me" from her third album, Britney. Timberlake and Wade Robson, one of Spears' backup dancers, wrote and produced the song, and Timberlake contributed background vocals. Though they'd performed together before, Spears revealed to MTV that she was "nervous" to work with her boyfriend.

"I have to say I was a little nervous at first," Spears said. "But then I just totally forgot that he was my boyfriend, and I just said, 'Britney, just do the vocals, don't be nervous' ... But it ended up being fine, actually."

Spears also clarified in a press conference that the lyrics of the song were not about her, despite being written by her then-boyfriend. "It's talking about a girl in a relationship and the boy doesn't understand what she's going through. Before she opens up to him, he has to realize what she's about," she explained.

For Spears' second appearance on Saturday Night Live as its host and musical guest, Timberlake made a cameo during her opening monologue. The episode also featured Chris Kattan dressed as a Spears impersonator.

A few days later, Spears talked to Katie Couric about her time on SNL and her relationship with Timberlake. Spears shared that she was less nervous for her second time hosting and that it was "fun." She also debunked engagement rumors.

"He's doin' wonderful," Spears said of Timberlake. But when asked if there was "any news on the Justin front," she simply responded: "No."

February 11, 2002: Justin Timberlake accompanies Britney Spears to the Crossroads premiere

Timberlake joined Spears on the red carpet for the L.A. premiere of Spears' acting debut in Crossroads. According to director Tamra Davis, Timberlake was just as present during production.

"It was just the most beautiful relationship, seeing the two of them together and how love-y they were," Davis told Vice in 2016. "They were just so close, and she was such a supporter of his. He worked just as hard as her. It was like, she would be doing rehearsals and he would be doing rehearsals. They really knew that life together."

Davis also shared that Spears would doodle in a prop notebook on set. "I have the book. All she was writing was 'Britney and Justin,' all these little curlicues," Davis recalled. "It was like looking at a teenage girl's musings — hearts and butterflies and Justin's name."

February 27, 2002: Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake attend the Grammy Awards Frank Micelotta/Getty

Spears and Timberlake hit the Grammys red carpet together in 2002 — one of their last red carpet appearances before splitting. At the ceremony, Spears presented the award for best pop performance by a group or duo. Timberlake was nominated in that category with *NSYNC — but Spears did not get the chance to present her boyfriend with a Grammy, as U2 won the category.

March 2002: Britney Spears says she's no longer in an "intense relationship" with Justin Timberlake

While promoting Crossroads in London, Spears said that she was "not in an intense relationship with anyone at the moment" — all but confirming her breakup with Timberlake.

The statement came after the couple had spent weeks denying rumors that they had split. Speculation of a breakup began when Spears was spotted crying with friend Tara Reid in L.A., but the pop star quickly shot them down when speaking to the European press.

"No, that's not true. Me and Justin did not split up," Spears said earlier in March. Spears also shared that she and Timberlake did not get to spend much time together because of "work commitments." (*NSYNC was on tour at the time.)

June 2002: Justin Timberlake says he has a "broken heart" over Britney Spears

Timberlake opened up to PEOPLE about life after his breakup with Spears. "It hurts too bad," the singer shared. "You get to a point when you're crying yourself to sleep every night. I feel like I'm in the middle of a soap opera. I honestly know what it's like to have a broken heart."

Timberlake added: "I love Britney, and I'll always love her."

In July 2002, Spears said that the breakup was amicable and a result of conflicting schedules. "We're climbing two different mountains," she said. "Of course it's gonna kind of hurt sometimes, and you wonder things. But you learn from it and grow. I'm trying to get to that point."

November 2002: Justin Timberlake reflects on "young love" with Britney Spears Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic

Before releasing his debut solo album Justified, Timberlake sat down for an interview with 20/20's Barbara Walters — and spoke about his breakup with Spears.

Timberlake refused to comment directly on why they split, but he did offer an explanation about their relationship and its end: "Honestly, I mean, you know, we're not perfect. I don't judge anybody. It's just young love ... It was a very intense relationship — that's for sure."

Timberlake also shared a song called "Horrible Woman" that didn't make the album's final cut. While he denied the song was about Spears, the lyrics left fans thinking otherwise: "So you had your chance to be my lover / I guess you needed something more undercover / And you know that ain't cool / So let's skip the drama, call your mama."

November 25, 2002: Justin Timberlake releases "Cry Me a River" music video with Britney Spears look-alike

Timberlake revealed the video for his single "Cry Me a River" on TRL, and the lyrics and storyline suggested that the song was about Spears. The video featured Timberlake catching a blonde actress (who donned low-rise jeans, a newsboy cap and a tattoo similar to Spears') cheating on him.

The lyrics, co-written by Timberlake, included: "Told me you loved me / Why did you leave me all alone? / Now you tell me you need me / When you call me on the phone."

In an interview with TRL's Carson Daly, Timberlake denied the Spears connection immediately. "A lot of people have asked if the video is about her. It's not about her, it's about me," he said, according to The Boston Globe.

But Timberlake later opened up about writing "Cry Me a River" in his 2018 memoir.

"I've been scorned. I've been pissed off," he wrote. "I wrote 'Cry Me a River' in two hours. I didn't plan on writing it. The feelings I had were so strong that I had to write it, and I translated my feelings into a form where people could listen and, hopefully, relate to it."

August 2003: Britney Spears is disappointed by Justin Timberlake's music video Denise Trusc / Getty

The next year, Spears opened up about Timberlake's infamous music video.

"It was hard for me that he was so exploitative," she said. "Every interview that he did, he was just talking about us in such an open way and I just felt, 'Is nothing sacred anymore?' It was weird. It was ... disappointing."

Reflecting on their relationship, Spears added: "I think I got way too serious, way too young. It's very healthy to not be in that relationship right now."

November 2003: Britney Spears talks about her breakup with Justin Timberlake to Diane Sawyer

In an interview with Diane Sawyer on Primetime, Spears faced a line of questioning that painted her as the cause of her split from Timberlake.

"You broke his heart. You did something that caused him so much pain, so much suffering. What did you do?" Sawyer asked Spears.

"I was upset. I was upset for a while ... I think we were both really young and it was kind of waiting to happen," Spears replied. "I will always love him and he'll always have a special place in my heart."

Sawyer pressed on and said, "He left the impression that you weren't faithful, that you betrayed the relationship."

Spears noted that Timberlake only shared his own perspective. "I think everyone has a side of their story to make them feel a certain way," she said. "I'm not technically saying he's wrong, but I'm not technically saying he's right either. It was a really weird time ... I just felt very exploited and very weird."

July 2006: Justin Timberlake says he was "infatuated" with Britney Spears KMazur/WireImage

Spears and Timberlake eventually moved on to new relationships — Spears married Kevin Federline in September 2004 and Timberlake began dating actress Cameron Diaz in 2003. In 2006, Timberlake reflected on his relationship with Spears. The *NSYNC alum shared that he was "infatuated" with Spears from the moment he saw her, but that their relationship was "so high school" and had become "a distant thing."

Timberlake also touched on their 2002 split and his infamous breakup ballad. "When we initially parted ways I felt like she had a couple of opportunities to just sort of stick up for me, and she didn't," he said. "Which is fine. But at that time, you know, I fought back. I used my mind. I came up with a song."

April 15, 2020: Britney Spears calls her split with Justin Timberlake one of the "world's biggest breakups"

Years after their relationship ended, Spears posted an Instagram video of herself dancing on a balcony to Timberlake's song "Filthy." In the caption, Spears complimented her ex on his music and referenced their highly publicized split.

"I know we had one of the world's biggest breakups 20 years ago…. but hey the man is a genius!!!!" Spears wrote. "Great song JT!!!!!"

Timberlake commented on the post with a series of emojis: "😂🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻."

February 12, 2021: Justin Timberlake publicly apologizes to Britney Spears

Timberlake posted a public apology on his Instagram for his behavior surrounding his breakup from Spears — in particular, for contributing to a system that "condones misogyny and racism."

In the lengthy Instagram post, Timberlake wrote: "I am deeply sorry for the times in my life where my actions contributed to the problem, where I spoke out of turn or did not speak up for what was right. I understand that I fell short in these moments and in many others ... I specifically want to apologize to Britney Spears and Janet Jackson both individually, because I care for and respect these women and I know I failed." (Timberlake and Jackson were the center of controversy for their 2004 Super Bowl halftime performance, in which he exposed Jackson's breast.)

He added: "I care deeply about the well-being of the people I love and have loved."

The apology came following the New York Times documentary Framing Britney Spears, which included Timberlake's former relationship with Spears. Specifically, the documentary questioned Timberlake's actions following the breakup, including "Cry Me a River" as a revenge song, its music video and Timberlake's public comments on his sex life with Spears.

June 23, 2021: Justin Timberlake supports Britney Spears during conservatorship hearing

Following Spears' court hearing to end the conservatorship she'd been under since 2008, Timberlake tweeted in support of his ex-girlfriend. At the hearing, Spears detailed that she was being forced to have an IUD to prevent her from having more children.

"After what we saw today, we should all be supporting Britney at this time," Timberlake said. "Regardless of our past, good and bad, and no matter how long ago it was… what's happening to her is just not right. No woman should ever be restricted from making decisions about her own body."

Timberlake concluded his thread with a message on behalf of him and his wife, Jessica Biel. "Jess and I send our love, and our absolute support to Britney during this time," he wrote. "We hope the courts, and her family make this right and let her live however she wants to live."

October 17, 2023: Britney Spears reveals she had an abortion during relationship with Justin Timberlake

In her 2023 memoir, The Woman in Me, Spears revealed that she got pregnant with Timberlake's baby during their three-year relationship but had an abortion.

"It was a surprise, but for me, it wasn't a tragedy. I loved Justin so much. I always expected us to have a family together one day. This would just be much earlier than I'd anticipated," Spears wrote of the pregnancy in her book, PEOPLE exclusively confirmed. "But Justin definitely wasn't happy about the pregnancy. He said we weren't ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young."

Spears continued, "If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it. And yet Justin was so sure that he didn't want to be a father."

January 29, 2024: Britney Spears says she's "in love" with Justin Timberlake's new single, "Selfish"

Sharing a video from Timberlake's appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Instagram, Spears not only apologized to anyone she had "offended" in her memoir, The Woman in Me, but also mentioned her ex's new music.

"I wanna apologize for some of the things I wrote about in my book. If I offended any of the people I genuinely care about I am deeply sorry…" Spears wrote in her caption. "I also wanted to say I am in love with Justin Timberlake's new song 'Selfish' 🌹 It is soo good and how come every time I see Justin and Jimmy together I laugh so hard ??? Ps 'Sanctified' is wow 🤩 too."

The evidence that Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake are fighting again

Following Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears online lately feels a lot like taking a stroll into the 2000s, when the relationship between the two pop stars shattered in a heavily public breakup. Much of the internet seems to think the pair are once again on the outs.

"I wouldn't say they're necessarily feuding, but there's definitely some shady, backhanded comments being thrown back and forth, though never directly," said Joshua Pingley, a Spears fan who runs an entertainment news TikTok account with more than 500,000 followers. He traced the spat back to the publication of Spears's memoir last year.

In that book, "The Woman in Me," Spears wrote she had an abortion because Timberlake didn't want to be a father, and claimed that he broke up with her through text message in 2002. "Everyone felt very sorry for him. And it shamed me," she wrote. "Anywhere I went, I could get booed. I would go to clubs and I would hear boos."

That was more than enough to get Spears fans riled up about Timberlake, whose reputation had already taken a few knocks in recent years. A 2021 New York Times documentary, "Framing Britney Spears," made a case that Timberlake weaponized his music against Spears and openly discussed his sexual relationship with her after their breakup. Timberlake apologized to Spears after the film released, but not everyone was satisfied.

So when Timberlake recently released his first single in five years, "Selfish," about desired love, Spears fans were primed to hit back.

As the track began to chart, Spears fans started to promote a 2011 Spears song, also titled "Selfish." The song rocketed up the charts, at one point topping not only Timberlake's song on the U.S. iTunes charts but also Megan Thee Stallion's "Hiss," and Ben Shapiro and Tom MacDonald's "Facts," according to Billboard.

The internet hivemind seemed to be dragging the ex-couple back into the fray. Spears responded to the attention in a relatively gracious Instagram post.

"I wanna apologize for some of the things I wrote about in my book. If I offended any of the people I genuinely care about I am deeply sorry," she wrote.

"I also wanted to say I am in love with Justin Timberlake's new song 'Selfish,'" she wrote on Instagram before making her account private. "It is soo good."

It's unclear if the apology was meant for Timberlake, or if he accepted, but Wednesday night he memorably blurted out during a performance in New York: "'I'd like to take this opportunity to apologize to absolutely [expletive] nobody,'" as seen on video footage of the concert.

Though he didn't mention Spears by name, people on social media were quick to point out that Timberlake made the non-apology right before performing his hit song "Cry Me a River" — a song that was inspired by his breakup with Spears.

Spears appeared to retaliate Thursday, posting an Instagram photo of a basketball hoop and a caption that read, "Someone told me someone was talking [expletive] about me on the streets! Do you want to bring it to the court or will you go home crying to your mom like you did last time? I'm not sorry !!!"

The basketball hoop has ties to Spears-Timberlake lore. In December, Spears wrote on Instagram that Timberlake used to cry when she beat him at basketball. As evidence, perhaps, she posted a series of photos of the couple shooting hoops together, as they were reported to have done for a Challenge for the Children basketball charity event in Las Vegas back in 2001. Happier times.

Sunny Hostin wonders whether Britney Spears is ‘capable’ after ‘questionable’ post-conservatorship behavior

Sunny Hostin wonders whether Britney Spears is "capable" after the pop star's 13-year conservatorship ended.

"We've seen a free Britney now after the conservatorship. Is she still suffering? Sometimes I wonder. It seems that she is still suffering," Hostin, 55, said on "The View" Tuesday.

Hostin's co-host Sara Haines chimed in to say "suffering is going to be inevitable" but questioned whether Spears, 42, is "capable of making decisions for her life."

"Is she capable? Because we've seen some things that have happened that's questionable," Hostin agreed.

The lawyer, who said she was "part of the #FreeBritney movement," did not elaborate on the behavior she found "questionable."

However, the "Toxic" singer has raised eyebrows with her bizarre social media posts since a Los Angeles judge terminated her conservatorship in 2021.

Britney Spears Pens Sweet Tribute To Janet Jackson Amid Beef With Justin Timberlake

Britney Spears posted and then quickly deleted a sweet message praising Janet Jackson amid her ongoing feud with ex-boyfriend and famous singer Justin Timberlake. On Feb. 24, the "Hit Me Baby…" songstress took to Instagram with a sweet tribute to honor Jackson, posting the cover art of the star's 1993 album, Janet.

"Thank you to this beautiful lady for keeping my dreams and heart alive," Spears, 42, penned.

"She's always been the deepest and brightest woman at the same time. She went through so much but I feel she is someone I will look up to for the rest of my life," the pop singer added in her since-deleted tribute post. "Thank you for your music and your divine way of untangling intelligence to a far more clear view than anyone could ever imagine."

Spears and Jackson, 57, have been at odds with Timberlake in the past. For the former, tension with the NSYNC artist sparked shortly after the release of her popular memoir, The Woman in Me, in October 2023. Inside the New York Times Bestseller, Spears — who dated Timberlake between 1999 and 2002 — accused the "Suit & Tie" hitmaker of cheating on her. She also exposed sensitive details about the abortion she experienced while dating the 10-time Grammy winner.

At his show in New York City Jan. 31, Timberlake seemingly dissed his ex-girlfriend and took a clear dig at the memoir, telling the audience that he wasn't apologizing to "absolutely f—king nobody" right before he launched into "Cry Me A River," a song that is reportedly about his bad breakup with Spears.

According to Page Six, on Instagram, the 42-year-old songstress swiftly retaliated against her former partner, writing in a since-deleted post, "I've heard there's been some talkin' s–t about me out there!!!"

She added, "Shall we handle this in court, or are you just gonna run home crying to mommy like last time??? No apologies coming from me!!!"

On X, fans of Spears dragged the singer for his petty jab. Jackson fans also took the shady comment personally. They pondered if the statement was a sour reference to the controversy that sparked shortly after Timberlake exposed Jackson's breast at the 2004 Super Bowl Halftime Show.

The "Rock Your Body" singer didn't encounter the level of scrutiny and backlash experienced by the Poetic Justice star in the months and years that followed the incident. Additionally, the embarrassing experience overshadowed the 57-year-old singer's career while Timberlake's remained largely intact.

The 43-year-old celeb's snarky remark came one month after Spears apologized for exposing sensitive details about their relationship inside The Woman in Me.

"I wanna apologize for some of the things I wrote about in my book. If I offended any of the people I genuinely care about, I am deeply sorry," the pop star wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post on Jan. 29, according to Ok Magazine. She also shared a nice compliment about Timberlake's new song "Selfish," telling fans that it was "So good."

In 2021, Timberlake issued a lengthy apology to Jackson and Spears for his failure to support them during their negative battles with the media.

"I've seen the messages, tags, comments, and concerns, and I want to respond," Timberlake penned on Instagram in February of that year. "I am deeply sorry for the times in my life where my actions contributed to the problem, where I spoke out of turn or did not speak up for what was right," he said.

"I understand that I fell short in these moments and in many others and benefited from a system that condones misogyny and racism. I specifically want to apologize to Britney Spears and Janet Jackson both individually because I care for and respect these women, and I know I failed."

If you think AI technology is all fun and games, you clearly haven't seen the new 'Mike Patton as Britney Spears' Toxic video

AI Mike Patton as Britney Spears .

It seems like every other day there's another musician or actor or film director cautioning the world about the potential dangers of AI, as that classic sci-fi 'one day the machines will rise up and enslave humanity!' trope creeps inexorably closer to reality day-by-day.

And sure, everyone may be over-reacting here, but then we saw that someone online has taken Britney Spears' Toxic video, morphed Faith No More/Mr.Bungle frontman Mike Patton's face onto the pop star's body, and attempted an AI approximation of what Patton would sound like singing this second single from Spears' 2003 album In The Zone, and frankly, we're not ok.

The person/people behind this monstrous but undeniably impressive, creation, Kollias Music Inventions say that the're all about "inventing immersive, multi-sensory experiences through music to inspire perception and provoke playful interactions". Which is a noble and entertaining pursuit, and fair play, but... shit like this can't be unseen.

The video is below. Watch at your own risk.

As we said, AI has been something of a hot topic in the entertainment world over the past year or two.

Discussing its potential with Guitar Player last year, Queen guitarist Brian May expressed fears as to where it might lead.

"I think a lot of great stuff will come from AI," he said, "because it is going to increase the powers of humans to solve problems. But the potential for AI to cause evil is, obviously, incredibly huge – not just in music, 'cause nobody dies in music, but people can die if AI gets involved in politics and world domination for various nations. I think the whole thing is massively scary. It's much more far-reaching than anybody realised – well, certainly than I realised."

Nick Cave also weighed in on the subject in an interview with The New Yorker, saying, "AI may very well save the world, but it can't save our souls. That's what true art is for. That's the difference. So, I don't know, in my humble opinion ChatGPT should just fuck off and leave songwriting alone."

Britney Spears Appeared To Toss Shade In Justin Timberlake’s Direction (Again) By Praising Janet Jackson

Britney Spears isn't stopping from throwing any shade toward her ex Justin Timberlake, even if she winds up deleting the posts in her usual fashion. Spears' latest Instagram found her including Janet Jackson into the mix, as she showered the musician with praise.

"Thank you to this beautiful lady for keeping my dreams and heart alive," Spears captioned after posting a photo of Jackson's album cover for Janet.

"She's always been the deepest and brightest woman at the same time. She went through so much but I feel she is someone I will look up to for the rest of my life. Thank you for your music and your divine way of untangling intelligence to a far more clear view than anyone could ever imagine."

For those wondering how this might have been interpreted as some subtle shade, part of what Jackson went through was the moment while performing with Timberlake at the Super Bowl that involved a wardrobe malfunction.

Spears has also been tossing jabs in Timberlake's direction over the past few weeks. "Someone told me someone was talking sh*t about me on the streets!!!" Spears previously captioned another Instagram photo. "Do you want to bring it to the court or will you go home crying to your mom like you did last time ??? I'm not sorry !!!"

Britney Spears Should Probably Keep Janet Jackson Out Her and Justin Timberlake's Mess, And Here's Why ...

We've always got time to celebrate the iconic Janet Jackson. If we're being honest: Every modern female pop star, and a few of the guys, should be praising her non-stop. At least one major celeb took time out to do just that over the weekend. On Sunday, in a since deleted Instagram post, Britney Spears showed her gratitude to Janet for inspiring her.

"Thank you to this beautiful lady for keeping my dreams and heart alive," Spears wrote. "She's always been the deepest and brightest woman at the same time. She went through so much but I feel she is someone I will look up to for the rest of my life. Thank you for your music and your divine way of untangling intelligence to a far more clear view than anyone could ever imagine."

While Britney's words may be genuine, there's something questionable about the timing. Since the release of her memoir, "The Woman In Me," she and ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake have been in a very public feud. The book revealed several private aspects of their relationship, including infidelity, abortion and his desire to be accepted by Black artists.

In response, Timberlake has been making snarky comments while performing his hit song, "Cry Me a River," which is allegedly about Spears' cheating.

Also, Timberlake notably left Janet to take all the blame following the infamous Super Bowl Halftime Show where her breast was exposed. Janet's career was inevitably altered for years, while Timberlake apologized, cried ignorance and continued to find success.

Now, Britney is unnecessarily bringing Janet into whatever immature back and forth she and Timberlake are engaged in. If she wants to celebrate Janet's influence and impact, we're here for that. However, if she's trying to use the "Control" legend as another "gotcha" moment in this never-ending nonsense with Timberlake, she needs to rethink that move right now. Janet is set for another leg of her "Together Again" tour and has no time to be dragged into their issues.

Britney Spears Exalts Janet Jackson: "She's Always Been the Deepest and the Brightest Woman"

Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, and Janet Jackson.

Britney Spears might just be a big fan of Janet Jackson's music (like the rest of us)—or she might be taking another swing at her ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake.

In a since-deleted Instagram post, Spears thanked Jackson for keeping her "dreams and heart alive."

"Thank you to this beautiful lady for keeping my dreams and heart alive," Spears wrote, "She's always been the deepest and brightest woman at the same time. She went through so much but I feel she is someone I will look up to for the rest of my life. The heartfelt tribute was accompanied by a photo of Jackson's self-titled album, Janet, which was released back in 1993.

Spears and Jackson share more than musical prowess: they share a common enemy.

Spears and Timberlake's rocky history has recently resurfaced with the release of her memoir, The Woman In Me. In this autobiography, Spears discussed many aspects of her conservatorship and handling fame as a young woman. She also opened up about the darker aspects of her publicized relationship with Timberlake.

For example, she revealed that Timberlake repeatedly cheated on her while they were together, that he broke up with her in a two-word text message, that he pushed her to get an abortion, and that she su ffered greatly from the fallout of their breakup.

A few weeks ago, Timberland seemingly shared his view on the criticism. Days after Spears said she was "in love with" his new song, the singer performed his 2002 hit "Cry Me a River" with a pretty pointed introduction.

"I'd like to take this opportunity to apologize to absolutely f****** nobody," Timberlake announced.

Many assumed this was about Spears, but fans of Jackson actually thought it could be about her. As while Spears opened the floodgates to examine Timberlake's actions, she's far from the only woman he has wronged.

Back in 2004, Jackson brought out a young Timberlake as a guest during her Super Bowl Halftime show. (This was two years after his breakup with Spears.)

Towards the end of the song, Timberlake ripped Jackson's costume, revealing one of her breasts to the crowd. Timberlake claimed this was an accident, but many disagreed upon seeing the footage. He also did little to stop the barrage of criticism Jackson received, as she was essentially barred from the industry and blamed entirely for her wardrobe malfunction.

Finally, in 2021, Timberlake apologized to both Spears and Jackson for how he "benefited from a system that condones misogyny and racism." However, he also went on to explain that this is the result of a "flawed" industry and "ignorance."

The "Toxic" songstress, 42, posted — and quickly deleted — a sweet message about the "Scream" hitmaker, 57.

"Thank you to this beautiful lady for keeping my dreams and heart alive," Spears wrote on Instagram Sunday.

"She's always been the deepest and brightest woman at the same time. She went through so much but I feel she is someone I will look up to for the rest of my life," the "Circus" singer went on.

"Thank you for your music and your divine way of untangling intelligence to a far more clear view than anyone could ever imagine."

The sweet caption, which was accompanied by a photo of Jackson's cover art for her 1993 album, "Janet," seemed to reference the controversy surrounding her Super Bowl XXXVIII performance with Justin Timberlake.

Spears' message comes amid her ongoing feud with her ex-boyfriend, who infamously exposed the five-time Grammy winner's chest in the middle of the 2004 Halftime Show.

While Jackson and Timberlake, 43, both issued public apologies at the time, the "Sexyback" chart-topper's career remained largely unscathed amid the fallout.

The tide has turned in recent years, however, and Timberlake fell out of favor in the court of public opinion during the Free Britney movement.

Most recently, Spears revealed in her memoir, "The Woman in Me," that she had an abortion while dating Timberlake in the early 2000s because he "wasn't happy" about the pregnancy and "didn't want to be a father."

Bizarrely, the "Friends with Benefits" actor responded by taking the stage and emphatically telling the crowd, "I'd like to take this opportunity to apologize to absolutely f–king nobody," before launching into his 2002 song "Cry Me a River," which was inspired by his relationship and breakup with Spears.

The "Gimme More" songstress shot back at her former flame on social media, writing, "Someone told me someone was talking s–t about me on the streets !!!"
