Jamie Lynn Spears’ Daughter Maddie Is All Smiles As She Attends Junior Prom: See Photos

Jamie Lynn Spears is celebrating a milestone moment for daughter Maddie.

Spears, 33, shared a carousel of photos via Instagram on Sunday, March 30, featuring Maddie, 16, in a floor-length lilac Sherri Hill dress with a thigh-high split. Maddie paired the look with metallic Christian Louboutin heels, styling her hair in a half-up, half-down 'do.

In one image, Spears posed with Maddie, daughter Ivey Joan, 6, and husband Jamie Watson. (Spears and Watson tied the knot in 2014 after she split from ex-fiancé and Maddie's dad, Casey Aldridge.)

"Junior prom💜☂️," Spears captioned her post.

In November 2024, the Zoey 101 star celebrated Maddie's commitment to college for softball. "All in my feels, bc my baby girl has committed to furthering her athletic & academic career at the University of Southern Miss!" Spears wrote via Instagram at the time.

"I can remember it like it was just yesterday, as the whole world watched and judged as I made the choice to have my baby at 16 years old, fast fwd to today, and that same little baby girl is now 16 years old herself announcing that she will be going to play D1 ball for an amazing college," Spears continued. "I feel like I can't take much credit for anything, bc I have witnessed this kid go through, face, & overcome some impossible things by her own strong will, convictions, determination, & the sheer grace of God."

In the Sweet Magnolias star's perspective, she "did everything I could to better myself" and be the mom Maddie "deserved" as well as "break those generational curses, so they weren't passed on to her or any future generations."

"I think her story is a true testament to trusting God's will & being able to achieve whatever you're willing to work hard for, and I couldn't be more proud of her!" Spears concluded. "Love you, Maddie🤍🖤💛. GO EAGLES 🦅."

Jamie Lynn Spears' daughter Maddie looked all grown up as she headed off to prom. In a carousel of snaps posted via Instagram on Sunday, April 14, Maddie, 15, stunned in a pink sequined floor-length gown with a thigh-high slit. She completed the look with a pair of sparkly silver pointed-toe heels and held a […]

Maddie revealed the news in her own Instagram post at the time. "I am so excited and blessed to announce my verbal commitment, for my academic and athletic career, to the University of Southern Mississippi!!!" she wrote. "I am so thankful to all the players, coaches, and family that have supported me and made it possible to get to the point I am today. This is a dream come true and I am truly blessed!! Thank you to Coach Poole, Coach Izzy, Coach Aaron, and Coach Matt for this opportunity!! GO EAGLES!!!💛💛💛."

Years before Maddie's commitment to college, she suffered a near-fatal accident after riding an ATV in Kentwood, Louisiana in 2007. (When the vehicle flipped into a pond, Maddie was knocked unconscious and remained underwater for several minutes before being airlifted to a hospital and treated for days.) Jamie Lynn, sister of Britney Spears, has shared her gratitude through the years now that Maddie has made a full recovery.

"Today is extra special, bc it's Maddie's #MiracleAnniversary and we could never have made it through that time without God, our faith, the first responders, amazing medical teams, family, and the prayers & support from our community, as well as from you guys all around the world," Jamie Lynn wrote via Instagram in February. "I'm posting some pics of Maddie on the set of Sweet Magnolias over the years, bc it was my first job after the accident and after having Ivey, it was a real turning point in my life to get be a part of the Sweet Mags family & community. We have nothing without the love and support of those around us, and I'm so grateful to be a part of a show that's built on that simple fact. 1 more day until SEASON 4 is y'all's🤍. I'll never let this day pass without saying THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU🤍."

In the comments section of the post, Maddie wrote, "i love you mom🤍🤍🤍."

Frontier's so lucky with debut of Britney Spears musical

Don't worry, we won't let you be the last to know that the jukebox musical paying tribute to Britney Spears will make its West Coast debut at a local high school.

Playing one weekend only at Frontier High School, "Once Upon a One More Time" recontextualizes the Princess of Pop's songs with a fairy-tale overlay.

Director Tevin Joslen said he initially thought to pass on the musical, which debuted on Broadway in 2023, but was so surprised by the story and how perfectly he saw it would fit the talent at the school.

"It's easy to look back at the height of Britney's career and view her as two-dimensional, the same way we view our favorite fairy-tales like Snow White and Cinderella," he wrote in an email. "But when you look a little closer and with a little more empathy, at her interviews and cultural attitudes towards her, the early 2000s highly objectified and stereotyped a young aspiring performer and then criticized her for it.

"In 'Once Upon a One More Time,' we get a chance to look at Cinderella and other fairy-tale characters with a newfound perspective. That, similar to Britney Spears, they are only the face of the story, and don't find that they have much agency or say in how their stories go."

The musical has some similarities with the 2023 movie "Barbie," Joslen said, but with fairy-tale princesses and characters instead of Barbies questioning their existence.

"The Britney Spears songs are used as a way to empower Cinderella, Snow White, and others in order to take control of their stories and rewrite them," he wrote.

While Spears' music was familiar to the cast, the singer's history, including media attacks and a conservatorship that lasted from 2008 to 2021, led to a few lessons.

Joslen wrote, "They knew about the 'shaved head' era and I found myself having my own 'leave Britney alone, moment as I explained how that moment came out of a young girl being exploited, controlled, and critiqued with very little empathy or consideration for her well-being. It was important for me to not let this musical teach them about and celebrate the early 2000s objectification of Britney Spears."

The show's set list is fun, the director said, including the titular number, a reworking of "Hit Me Baby One More Time"; "Toxic," now a villain song sung by Cinderella's Stepmother; and "Circus," which is sung by the "very self-involved Prince Charming."

"Once Upon a One More Time" is the biggest production Frontier has put on since Joslen started teaching at the school.

He wrote, "We have giant moving staircases, a 12-foot-tall scaffolding that rolls all about the stage, a LED light curtain that a student has had to code, more than 15 dance numbers, tons of costumes, some of which were designed by our Fashion Club, and with a new musical that didn't give us any previous productions to look back to as a reference."

Joslen looks forward to audiences coming out for the three performances to experience the "immense amount of hard work and creativity" from the student body and the community its has cultivated.

Showtimes are 7 p.m. Friday and 2 and 7 p.m. Satuday at the school, 6401 Allen Road.

Admission is $11, $16.75 for premier seating in advance, $15 or $20 after. Visit Frontier's gofan.co to purchase.

Casting Director Tess Sanchez Tries to Cast Britney Spears' BFF in “We've Decided to Go in a Different Direction” (Exclusive)

If you didn't lose your bearings just a teeny, tiny bit during the pandemic, were you even really there?

That's just one of the hilarious and thoughtful observations in Hollywood casting director Tess Sanchez's debut memoir, We've Decided To Go In A Different Direction. After losing her job (and some of her sanity, as she recounts in an essay) as a Fox casting executive at the height of the 2020 coronavirus pandemic, Sanchez tells PEOPLE that her husband, Running Point star Max Greenfield — who wrote the foreword — is to thank for her finally sitting down to tell her story. Mostly because he had had enough of her incessant musings.

Sanchez, 40, tells PEOPLE, "I actually was following my husband around the house saying, 'What do you think about this and what do you think about that, and why did this happen, and I'm so annoyed about this.' He was like, 'Can you please hire a professional sounding board because I can't do this anymore.' I went to therapy for the first time and she was like, 'You should write some of this stuff down.' "

Some of that "stuff" includes laugh-out-loud stories about hustling her way from a retail job in the early aughts to casting some of the biggest roles in Hollywood, receiving her father's Alzheimer's diagnosis just after her career change and flagrantly catfishing men on dating apps for her sister.

Oh, and in a story that is almost too Hollywood to be true, having her doctor ("think season 1 Meredith Grey") take a selfie with her New Girl-famous husband mere seconds after Sanchez delivered her daughter Lilly in 2008. She and Greenfield also have a son, Ozzy, born in 2015. "She'll know who she is," Sanchez laughs about the idea of the doctor reading the book.

"I wrote it like I was talking to my best friend," she says. "I highly encourage a glass of wine and your bestie," Sanchez recommends as a companion to the essay collection.

Read on for an exclusive excerpt from her memoir where Sanchez writes about the time she reached out to Britney Spears in the hopes of casting her as one of those besties. "This will be my second calling to her," Sanchez says. "My doors are open."

We've Decided to Go in a Different Direction by Tess Sanchez cover

I am and have always been a Britney Spears fan. I wasn't down at the courthouse with a "Free Britney" sign, but I had participated in conversations about her conservatorship and certainly sided with the movement for her to reclaim her autonomy.

A few years back, I flew to Vegas to see her Piece of Me show toward the end of her residency at Planet Hollywood. Had I known then that she was basically a prisoner on her own stage, out of respect I wouldn't have danced and sang along so enthusiastically. I do know the lyrics to most of her songs. I bought the PEOPLE magazine that had pictures of her wedding with K-Fed. I am not bragging, but I have stored in my long-term memory her sons' names, Sean Preston and Jayden James — information absorbed by living in Los Angeles in the early aughts. I have, however, not had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Spears myself (yet).

I was genuinely happy when she met and married Sam Asghari, and concerned when they announced their divorce.

About a week after the Sam/Brit breakup announcement, I was flipping through Instagram and landed on one of her dance montages in a bikini top and cutoff shorts. The next story was about how she was getting away on a vacation. I thought, Yes! Turn down the noise on all the divorce drama and media speculation. Good call, Brit.

This revelation got me thinking. Who is she going away with? Is that rumor about the affair with her bodyguard true? And where the F are her girlfriends? Where's her tribe of gals from back in the day? Who is her support system and why isn't said group directing her to the right stylist for better hair extensions? How hard it must be for her to make friends, to trust people. She has 42 million followers, but how many friends?

The casting director in me took over: I needed to cast a new best girlfriend—and eventually a new boyfriend—for Brit. I had honed my ability to "pick the good ones." So I took to my Instagram and sent her a Direct Message. It read as follows:

Girl, I have been following you forever. You need a solid girlfriend, a friend who does not want or need anything from you. Someone who has your back, with no ulterior motives. I am a mom, and a sister, and have a husband and my own full life. There are normal, good people who live in Los Angeles. You don't need to settle. Anyway, I am thinking about you and hoping that you have a bestie who can support you through your divorce. We are rooting for you. If you ever want to hang or need advice, we got you. Xo, Tess

Okay fine, the offer to "hang" at the end took it a bit too far, but I genuinely meant it. I can't stand to see her struggle and I really am rooting for her. I want Britney to be surrounded by good people who care about her, and I am not sorry for putting an invitation out into the ether to help. Obvi, she never wrote back, but I stand by it. And maybe someday she will accept the offer, and we will hang in my kitchen on a Friday night with cocktails and a cheese plate with my funny, kind friends with no expectation of anything in return.

It is not unlike the time we were at a small party over Oscar weekend 2021 and Taylor Swift was standing two feet from us. I said to Max, "Oh, there's Taylor. You know her, she did an episode of New Girl season two." (Note: She did do an episode of New Girl in 2012, but Max didn't have a single scene with her.) Max's eyes widened as he said, "Tess, do nooooot—" Too late. I had already leaned over and said, "Hey Taylor. Hi Joe." (She was still dating Joe Alwyn.) "How are you guys? You know Max." I looked at Max. He was horrified and frozen but was forced to engage as Taylor threw her a rms open to give him a hug. The four of us stood talking for about twenty minutes, laughing like old friends.

We moved so much as kids that, aside from my one bestie from middle school, Ryan, my older sister, Christina (think Melanie Lynskey), is the closest to a lifetime mirror that I have had. Christina is the yin to my yang. We are so different that we complement each other. I have always looked up to her and been amazed by her clarity and conviction. I feel fluffy next to her. She is the badass attorney, breadwinner, and PTA mom. She will lobby and challenge norms for the betterment of the whole.

It's ironic that now as a parent, I have a sensitive, cautious listener in my son, Ozzie, and a passionate jump now, worry later joiner in Lilly. What a test of my patience when Ozzie wants to know every detail about a situation before agreeing to participate. Hi, boy-me.

As an adult, despite Christina's proclaimed happiness and comfort with being single — and I believed her, because she had a successful career and two fantastic kids, and was living her best independent life — still, I couldn't help it, sometimes I questioned her degree of fulfillment.

I am flawed and clearly annoying, but Max loves me and my idiosyncrasies. If he finds me lovable at my worst, I can't be that bad, right? I longed for Christina to experience that same thing. She deserved to have a bad day and be adored anyway. As does Britney.

That was one of the reasons why, in 2019, when a close colleague said to me, "Your sister sounds great. It's her picker that's broken," I was prompted to take action. Ding! I am a good picker; I do it professionally. Without her knowledge, I decided to build a profile for her on a dating website. I wanted to try my hand at casting her a boyfriend or, at the very least, a sexy fling.

I know what you're thinking. Mind your business, Tess. Did Christina express any sentiment about being lonely? No, not exactly. No, she did not. But I can't help myself! My soul would not rest until I knew I had done my part to maximize every ounce of potential. (Ya hear me, Britney?)

And so it began. I crafted a beautiful profile with pictures, listed hobbies, her ideal geographic dating area, her kids, her trips, and her pets. After two days of tweaks, boom, boom, click, and uploads, we were live.

I felt proud of how authentic and honest her profile looked. I know it sounds like a stretch to use the word "honest" when she had no knowledge of this profile's existence. So what that she had nothing to do with it! It was all TRUE.

The PEOPLE Puzzler crossword is here! How quickly can you solve it? Play now!

Once I had the gorgeous profile up and running, I let Max in on the plan. "Babe, check this out. I made a dating profile for Christina. I'm going to screen a few candidates for her."

Max stared at me for a beat before saying, "Umm, this is called catfishing, and I think it's illegal. And even if it isn't technically illegal, it should be — you CANNOT do this, Tess. You are committing fraud." I looked up at him and smiled. "It's okay. You don't get it. It's a sister thing."

Not only did he not get it, but he was also vehemently op- posed to this entire plan. Yet I would wake up every morning, take my laptop to the kitchen, and read aloud to Max about Christina's prospective suitors, despite his objections. "Stop. Please stop reading this to me. I don't want to be a part of this or be complicit in any way. And you also sound ridiculous."

My plan all along was to come clean with Christina after I had vetted the candidates and scrutinized the tedious details of each interested suitor. And sure enough, I/Christina began a conversation with a wonderful man named Nelson, a single dad with two kids similar in age to hers. He lived close to me/her in San Francisco and had not done any online dating before. Perfect. We talked back and forth every day, getting to know the details of each other's lives. My mornings were spent giggling at our witty exchanges, while Max stared at me with disdain and disapproval.

After about six weeks of talking/writing almost every day, I asked Nelson if he wanted to meet for coffee. We had come to know each other well enough; it was time to explore the in-per- son chemistry. However, much to my disappointment, after dozens and dozens of flirty exchanges, Nelson said he needed "more time" before meeting in person. Then on a cold November morning, I received a message from Nelson. He wrote that he really liked me but that he had met someone else on the site and they were dating exclusively, so he didn't feel right about continuing to communicate with me.

Not gonna lie, I took the news pretty hard. Max was hardly sympathetic.

"Are you seriously upset that Nelson dumped you? I can't believe I just said that. Do you see how abnormal this all is?!"

I nodded in acquiescence, then lamented, "But Nelson broke up with me/her before I/Christina had my/her shot at a face-to-face date. I don't get it. What did I/she do wrong? Why didn't he pick me/her?"

Max couldn't resist the jab. "I guess your GAME isn't that strong." Ouch. Fair point.

I wrote a strongly worded message back, then deleted it. Wrote another one, deleted it. I ultimately decided to take the high road, with a less is more response. "I am happy for you. Good luck. Christina."

For Christina's birthday later that November, we agreed to take a girls' trip to Palm Springs, just the two of us. It would be the perfect time for me to finally break the news about the catfishing. After our first night, while eating a sumptuous breakfast in bed, it felt like the right time to break the news. "Chrissy, I have something I need to tell you."

"I really want you to be happy and find love again," I said. "But you haven't been dating, and you're not even trying to meet someone."

"This profile is live and has been for about three and a half months. I've been corresponding, as you, with a few men, one in particular. His name is Nelson."

And then there was a very long pause, as in no words spoken. "Here." I handed her my computer. "Go ahead. Take a look at me as you."

I couldn't read her expression. Was she mad? I looked in her eyes and saw skepticism—a familiar look I often get from Max that says: What did you do now?

After nearly an hour, Christina came back inside. She sat next to me and put her hand on mine. "Thank you. Thank you, Tess. No one has ever done anything that thoughtful for me before." I looked at her, flooded with relief. "And also, eff Nelson! His loss! We played that perfectly."

Postscript: Christina took over my/her dating profile for a while but is currently dating a southern dreamboat from Texas who we knew growing up. My friend Britney, however . . .

Britney Spears Leaves Little to the Imagination in Sexy Outfit — Including a Red Thong

Britney Spears is turning up the heat with her latest look!

On Friday, March 28, the pop star, 43, posted several photos of herself on Instagram modeling a black lace lingerie slip over a red thong.

Spears showed off her racy outfit in various poses from the front and to the side while standing by a fireplace in what appeared to be her home.

"Definitely a character because that's not me!!! But wait s---- it does kinda look like me 🤔🤔🙄🙄!!! Just kidding !!!" the singer captioned the post.

Spears famously sparked the thong-revealing trend in the early 2000s after wearing a pink thong over her jeans in her 2001 music video for the song "I'm A Slave 4 U." She has also previously performed in thong-baring looks and bodysuits several times onstage throughout the years.

In an Instagram video posted a day earlier, the "Toxic" singer donned a much more modest look as she opted to wear a black sequined gown. Posing once again by her fireplace, she walked up to the camera and twirled around in a circle while flicking her hair.

Earlier in the month, Spears shared personal footage of her spending quality time with her 18-year-old son Jayden at home after reuniting in since-deleted videos posted on her Instagram.

In one of the clips posted on March 10, Jayden was seen playing the piano as Spears appeared to be filming him from behind and hyping him up in the background.

"That was really good! My son just played, oh my God!" Spears proudly remarked. "I felt it in my bones and my heart and my lungs and my ass and my throat and I'm scared."

She wrote in the caption of the post, "He's a genius and I'm in awe of him !!! I can't believe he's mine !!! I was honestly scared that's not normal !!!"

In a second video, Jayden continued to play the piano while sitting on a bench as Spears walked behind him. "That's sick, Jesus. That's sick," she said, adding in the caption, "WOW WOW WOW!!!"

Britney Spears, 43, shocks fans in red thong, black negligee before weighing in on her upcoming biopic

If Britney Spears wants to dance in lingerie, that's her prerogative.

The pop star, 43, took to social media on Friday to share a slew of selfies while wearing a see-through black lace negligee and red thong.

Spears wore her blonde hair down as she posed for the camera with a sultry look on her face. In one shot she was seen cupping her breasts while sporting a mischievous grin.

The mother-of-two is no stranger to sharing dance videos to her social media account, including one that saw her holding knives.

Beneath the raunchy images, Spears seemingly chimed in on the casting of her upcoming biopic, captioning the Instagram post, "Definitely a character because that's not me !!! But wait shit it does kinda look like me 🤔🤔🙄🙄 !!! Just kidding !!!"

It was announced in April 2024 that Jon M. Chu would be developing a biopic on the artist at Universal, along with "Wicked" producer Marc Platt, after the studio acquired rights to her 2023 memoir, "The Woman in Me."

Spears shared the news on X at the time, writing, "Excited to share with my fans that I've been working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt. He's always made my favorite movies … stay tuned."

Ever since, fans have chimed in with who they think would be a perfect fit. Actress Olivia Holt, a former Disney star, has been touted as a potential lead.

In February, the 27-year-old chimed in on the potential casting.

"I would be so honored to play Britney," Holt told Variety at the premiere of horror/comedy movie "Heart Eyes."

"I'm just so grateful to be in the running and around so many names and talent who are in the running for it," she continued. "Just the idea that I am on people's minds to play something as iconic as this, would be a dream."

Holt also named her favorite songs by Spears while on the carpet.

"I could go way back and we can do a little 'I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman.' That's kind of my favorite," the star shared. "But I also love the 'Circus' era. There are so many eras of Britney. How could you choose?"

As for other names thrown into the hat? Sabrina Carpenter, Millie Bobby Brown, Ariana Grande, and Addison Rae.

Brown, 21, chimed in on the buzz as well, telling Access Hollywood in February, "I mean, she is an absolute icon. I would love nothing more than to be a part of her story."

But Chu, 45, shut down rumors, telling fans on X that casting had not begun yet.

"None of this is true," Chu replied to speculation about Grande, 31, Carpenter, 25, and Brown being in the running. "Sounds exciting but have not had one conversation about casting this movie yet. We are way too early in development. Sorry."

Spears' memoir sold over 2.5 million copies in the United States after release. In the book, she chronicled her journey to fame starting from her days on the "Mickey Mouse Club" days through her recent conservatorship case.

Britney Spears biopic director Jon M. Chu shuts down Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter casting rumors

Director Jon M. Chu has officially refuted online rumors that Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter, or Millie Bobby Brown will land the Britney Spears biopic lead part. During his March 23 confirmational appearance, Chu made it clear that casting discussions have not occurred because the biopic remains early in its development phase.

Online discussions about potential Britney Spears biopic actresses focused on Ariana Grande alongside Millie Bobby Brown and Sabrina Carpenter as possible contenders for the lead role. However, Jon M. Chu took to X (formerly Twitter) to put an end to the rumors.

"None of this is true," Chu tweeted on March 23. "Sounds exciting but have not had one conversation about casting this movie yet. We are way too early in development. Sorry."

Although casting has yet to be discussed, Jon M. Chu has previously expressed enthusiasm about directing the biopic, which is based on Spears' memoir, The Woman in Me. In an interview with E! News in November 2024, he spoke about the significance of the project.

"I'm very excited about it," Jon M. Chu said. "I think there's huge potential about telling a great story, one that she deserves."

This is not the first time casting rumors for the biopic have surfaced. In August 2023, Britney Spears' former assistant, Felicia Culotta, suggested that actress Emma Roberts would be a great choice to portray Spears.

Emma Roberts, known for her roles in American Horror Story and Scream Queens, responded to the speculation in an interview with Cosmopolitan, saying she was honored by the suggestion and would love to take on the role, as stated by E! News on March 24, 2025.

"I was like, 'I love her assistant,'" Roberts said. "I mean, it's my true dream to play Britney Spears."

She also recalled her admiration for Spears, stating,

"I remember I locked myself in my room and listened to In the Zone and said, 'I cannot leave this room until I memorize every word.'"

Although there has been speculation about the film's casting, Spears has confirmed that she is involved in the project's development. In a post on X, she expressed her excitement about working with producer Marc Platt.

"Excited to share with my fans that I've been working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt," Spears wrote. "He's always made my favorite movies … stay tuned."

Britney Spears has been one of the most influential figures in pop music since the late 1990s. Her debut album, ...Baby One More Time, released in 1999, became a cultural phenomenon, selling over 25 million copies worldwide. She continued her success with multiple chart-topping albums, including Oops!... I Did It Again and Blackout.

Her memoir, The Woman in Me, published in October 2023, became a bestseller, shedding light on her career and personal experiences.

Fans must wait for official news about the actor who will play Spears in the upcoming biopic. Jon M. Chu has confirmed in his statement that the production teams have not chosen any actors for the role of Spears at their current stage.

Jon M. Chu Says Britney Spears Biopic Not Casting Yet Amid Reports of Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter and Millie Bobby Brown Battling for Role

Jon M. Chu is shutting down casting rumors surrounding his upcoming Britney Spears biopic movie. The "Wicked" director told fans on X that his movie is not even in the casting process yet as reports circulate claiming that Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter and Millie Bobby Brown are battling it out to play the iconic pop star on the big screen.

"None of this is true," Chu wrote in response to Grande, Carpenter and Brown being contenders. "Sounds exciting but have not had one conversation about casting this movie yet. We are way too early in development. Sorry."

Chu directed Grande to an Oscar nomination in "Wicked," and the duo have the second movie, "Wicked: For Good," arriving in theaters this November. The musical's film studio, Universal Pictures, is backing the Britney Spears biopic, as is "Wicked" producer Marc Platt. Universal landed the rights to the biopic last August. The film will be based on Spears' blockbuster memoir "The Woman in Me," which has sold over 2.5 million copies in the United States alone.

In the book, Spears chronicled her journey to pop superstardom from her "Mickey Mouse Club" days through her highly-publicized and scrutinized conservatorship case. The audiobook — read by Academy Award-nominated actor Michelle Williams, with an introduction by Spears — is the fastest-selling in Simon & Schuster's history. It's unclear what part of Spears' life the biopic will focus on.

When the memoir was released in October 2023, Spears was quoted as saying: "I poured my heart and soul into my memoir, and I am grateful to my fans and readers around the world for their unwavering support."

Ever since the biopic's announcement, fans have been dream casting who should play Spears on the big screen. "Heart Eyes" star Olivia Holt has had her name thrown around on social media, and she told Variety earlier this year it "would be a dream" to play Spears, adding: "I would be so honored."

The Princess of Pop's eye-opening 2023 memoir The Woman in Me has officially been in the works to be translated onto the big screen. Since the announcement, it's provided a buzzing rumor mill, including who will take on the coveted tiara. The whole project is still early enough in development that not much is truly hammered out, except that Jon M. Chu is confirmed to direct the Sp ears biopic (confirmed by Britney Spears herself). Still, plenty of stories have reported that starlets are vying for the lead BTS, including Sabrina Carpenter and Millie Bobby Brown, but Chu has weighed in with the official word about who may play the pop icon.

As Chu gears up for the coming release of Wicked: For Good later this year, he's been busy with a few pre-production projects, including Crazy Rich Asians 2 and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Along with it, seemingly smashing down the alleged headlines, Buzzing Pop's X account posted about Sabrina Carpenter, Millie Bobby Brown and even Ariana Grande battling for the biopic. The In the Heights director plainly stated all the claims were cool ideas but false and aren t even at a stage where they're ready to hold auditions. He shared:

None of this is true. Sounds exciting but have not had one conversation about casting this movie yet. We are way too early in development. Sorry.

I'm glad to hear that we can all breathe easy, for now, and that there are no actresses at ends of any kind to land the highly anticipated film. Surely, production will take their time with a title this big and nail all the right details. Reportedly, an insider shared that the Cross Roads star wants and knows that the Spears biopic be highly successful and not face a similar fate as the Madonna one. Like Chu's response, the idea of those three as potential picks to pick up the infamous python where she left off would make for an exciting movie.

Many other speculations have entered the discourse, along with fan picks. The prospective Britney Spears possibles lists include Florence Pugh, Emma Roberts, Olivia Holt, Tate McRae, Sydney Sweeney, Addison Rae and Elle Fanning (along with the aforementioned trio).

I can see why Sabrina Carpenter, aka the queen of Brinacore's name, has been thrown around–she is a (highly popular pop) singer and has a decent acting background, like Spears. Millie Bobby Brown's chance is equally as recognizable–starring in multiple dynamic 2025 Netflix schedule titles, including the coming Stranger Things S5 and the super blonde hairdo doesn't hurt. I don't see Ariana Grande's chances being higher than the previous two, although Chu is greatly familiar with the Eternal Sunshine artist due to their time on Wicked together. I think it's safe to say that the chances are still wide open for anyone trying to pursue the future pop biopic.

For now, we'll just have to take Chu's word for it and enjoy the projects he has coming down the pipe! There's no doubt that once the actress is publicly announced for the Spears project, all the battling buzz

Rihanna Is Being Praised For A Resurfaced Interview Where She Refused To Shade Britney Spears After Being Baited By A TV Presenter

When Britney Spears released her memoir, The Woman in Me, back in 2023, it led to a mass retrospective on how the star was treated by both the media and her fellow celebrities in the ‘00s. But as many famous faces â€" including Justin Timberlake, Sarah Silverman, and Diane Sawyer â€" sparked backlash for their behavior during this time, other stars were praised for going against the grain and refusing to take the bait when it came to trash-talking Britney.

Bruce Gifford / FilmMagic

One of these stars was Beyoncé, who ended up going viral in 2023 for comments that she made during a 2007 interview with Liam Bartlett for 60 Minutes Australia. For reference, 2007 is undeniably one of the darkest years for Britney, who catapulted to fame in 1999 at just 18 years old.

After filing for a divorce from her second husband, Kevin Federline, in November 2006, Britney was being relentlessly hounded by the paparazzi, and concern for her mental health began to grow. In February 2007, Britney checked into a rehab for 24 hours, and the following day, she shaved her head in front of the media’s cameras.

She ended up having another two stints in rehab that year, was court-ordered to give up custody of her two sons, and also hit the headlines when she attacked the paparazzi with an umbrella.

As a result, Britney found herself as the butt of everyone’s jokes in pop culture, with the star receiving little sympathy despite her obvious struggles.

But while everybody else was jumping on the bandwagon to mock Britney, Beyoncé remained dignified and sympathetic when Bartlett referred to Britney as “a complete disaster” in the 60 Minutes interview. In fact, Bey even alluded to the fact that Britney was surrounded by people who didn’t have her best interests at heart â€" something that was not publicly exposed until years later.

“I’m 25 and, if I really wanted to, I could still be a young woman and do something completely different and have a whole new career, and still have, hopefully, my whole life ahead of me,” Beyoncé said in the interview.

“But you could say the same thing about someone like Britney Spears,” Liam countered, which did not get a response from Beyoncé. He then continued: “There’s only three months between you and Britney… And look at the difference, a complete disaster.”

At this point, Beyoncé took the time to acknowledge the key differences between her and Britney, saying: “I mean, people handle different things differently and thank god I’ve been surrounded by honesty. And thank god I’ve chosen to still be around people that I trust â€" and it’s really difficult, when you’re a celebrity, to know the difference.”

And this week, another celebrity has gone viral for being ahead of the curve in their treatment of Britney during these difficult years. This time, it’s Rihanna, who first found global fame in 2005 at the age of 17.

On Monday, an X user shared a clip from an old MTV interview with Rihanna during the first couple of years of her career, where she also refused to take the bait as the host tried to shade Britney in front of a live studio audience. In the footage, the presenter mentions that Rihanna had been dubbed “the next Britney Spears,” which prompts a groan from the crowd.

What Experts Really Think Of Britney Spears' 'Ice Cream Diet' To Drop Pounds

Is retired pop star Britney Spears really losing weight by eating ice cream?

The "Oops!... I Did It Again" singer has been showing off her fit figure on social media for quite a while now, leaving many of her followers wondering how she stays so toned. Although it's clear that Britney does a lot of dancing in her free time, she has also claimed that a new "ice cream diet" has helped her keep her shape.

What Britney Spears Has Said About Her Ice Cream Diet

The "Circus" singer revealed that she was trying out the ice cream diet in February 2021, which was only a few months before her controversial 13-year conservatorship came to an end. She has since made comments about fasting, but has not directly stated how long she was on the ice cream diet or what – if any –  results she achieved from it.

"So .... I tried the ice cream diet and since my favorite flavor is strawberry. I realized after a week eating it twice a day I needed to mix it up !!!!" she wrote at the time. "I switched to chocolate .... then I got bored of that one really fast so finally I went to vanilla !!!!"

What Is The Ice Cream Diet?

It's no surprise that many nutritionists label the "ice cream diet" as a fad diet that has undergone little scientific study. The original diet is actually based on a book by Holly McCord that was published in 2002. The diet involves counting calories, but still making time for a scoop of ice cream every night.

"This is a calorie-restricted diet," dietitian Jo Bartell told Healthline. "Anytime people follow a calorie-restricted diet and eat fewer calories than they burn throughout the day or more than they ate before following the plan, they lose weight."

Does The Ice Cream Diet Actually Work?

The ice cream diet works much like any other calorie-restricted diet, while still leaving room in your caloric budget to squeeze in a scoop.

"There is definitely something to be said for allowing dieters a treat like ice cream every day," says Bartell. "When people aren't feeling deprived and getting to enjoy something they love, they will be more likely to stick to eating for weight loss."

So does it work? "Anyone who eats 1,200 calories per day will lose weight in the short term because the body will be in a caloric deficit," she explained. "This has to do with lack of calories and not the ice cream."

One Man Lost Over Thirty Pounds on the Ice Cream Diet

Although that was the original idea behind the ice cream diet, there have been dieters who have tried to survive on nothing but ice cream to see how it would transform their bodies. Men's Health reported on a man named Anthony Howard-Crow, a 32-year-old online trainer, who decided to eat 2,000 calories of ice cream a day, along with 500 calories of protein supplements and a bit of alcohol for 100 days straight.

In addition to losing 32 pounds, he also saw improvements in his blood work. Although eating ice cream for breakfast, lunch, and dinner sounds too good to be true, Anthony later said, "This diet was, hands down, without a doubt, the most miserable dieting adventure I have ever embarked upon."

That Weight Loss Reportedly Included A Lot of Muscle

Although many want to lose weight in order to achieve a more "toned" appearance, that won't happen without muscle. Anthony reported that, unfortunately, a good amount of the 32 pounds that he lost on the ice cream diet was lean muscle. As he noted at the end of the experiment, "I was still not extremely lean."

The ice cream diet also tanked his motivation, which meant he was not pushing himself in the gym when he usually did. The diet became difficult to continue, with Anthony noting, "I was moody, and just generally unenjoyable to be around."

As to why he did the "stunt diet," Anthony says, "The overall goal of my projects is never to present them as healthy, real ways to lose weight," adding that his goal was to show that calories count more than macronutrients when it comes to weight loss.

It's unclear if Britney Spears also felt miserable while on the diet, but one thing is for sure: when it comes to an ice cream diet, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!

Jon Chu Sets the Record Straight on Britney Spears Biopic Casting Rumors About Ariana Grande, Others

Getty Images (2)

Jon M. Chu has set the record straight on casting rumors for his Britney Spears biopic.

"[We] have not had one conversation about casting this movie yet," Chu, 45, confirmed Sunday, March 23 via X.

The Wicked director responded to speculation that Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter and Millie Bobby Brown were all in the running to play the "Gimme More" singer, 43. Wicked fans were especially excited about the prospect of Grande potentially reuniting with Chu following their award-winning success with the musical, in which she costarred as Glinda.

However, the filmmaker shot down the rumors entirely by writing on X, "None of this is true. Sounds exciting but have not had one conversation about casting this movie yet. We are way too early in development. Sorry."

Britney Spears Was the Inspiration for Hilary Duff's 'A Cinderella Story' Character, Screenwriter Reveals

Deadline reported in August 2024 that Chu was teaming up with Universal Pictures on a film adaptation of Spears' 2023 New York Times bestselling memoir The Woman in Me. The memoir detailed Spears' years-long battle to be freed from a conservatorship that controlled her life, both personally and professionally.

Several notable stars have expressed interest in playing Spears, including Brown, 21, revealing on The Drew Barrymore Show in 2022 (long before the memoir's publication) that she felt passionate about the "Toxic" singer's life story.

"I want to play a real person and I think for me, Britney. [It] would be Britney Spears," Brown told host Drew Barrymore. "I think her story resonates with me. Just growing up, watching her videos, watching interviews of her when she was younger — I see the scramble for words and I don't know her, but when I look up pictures of her I feel like I could tell her story in the right way and hers only."

Spears seemed less than enthusiastic about Brown's movie pitch, suggesting on Instagram at the time that it was premature to turn her life into a Hollywood film.

"Good news, good news !!! Still breathing … I hear about people wanting to do movies about my life … dude I'm not dead !!!" Spears wrote via Instagram in November 2022. "Although it's pretty f—king clear they preferred me dead 🙄🙄🙄 … I guess my family is going to lock their doors now 🤔🤔🤔🙄🙄🙄🤧🤧🤧 !!!"

American Horror Story star Emma Roberts was later recommended by Spears' former assistant, Felicia Culotta, as ideal casting for the movie.

"I was like, 'I love her assistant,'" Roberts, 34, later joked to Cosmopolitan in August 2024. "I mean, it's my true dream to play Britney Spears. It's a rumor, but I hope maybe it'll come true.

"I mean, I remember I locked myself in my room and listened to In the Zone and said, "I cannot leave this room until I memorize every word," the AHS actress recalled.

The biopic's director, Chu, has plenty of experience tackling music-themed projects, as he made Justin Bieber's concert movies Never Say Never and Believe, in 2011 and 2013, respectively. He later directed the film version of Lin-Manuel Miranda's Broadway breakthrough In the Heights in 2021 and received acclaim for 2024's Wicked.

A Wicked sequel, titled Wicked: For Good, will hit cinemas in November 2025. Based off the second act of the hit Oz-inspired Broadway show of the same name, Chu's musical reunites him with Grande and Cynthia Erivo, who return as Glinda and Elphaba.

In January 2025, Chu warned Spears superfans that it would be "a long road" before the biopic was completed because he wanted to ensure authenticity and sensitivity.

"I'm a big fan of Britney. I've been a fan since I was young and she was young and she was one of 12 acts at the Shrine Auditorium," he told Entertainment Tonight. "So I want to do her justice and tell her story right."

Meanwhile, it was reported in February that Britney agreed to cover her father Jamie Spears' outstanding legal bills resulting from the conservatorship, totalling over $2.12 million. The pair also agreed that Britney's payments resolved any lingering disputes with her father, relating to the termination of her conservatorship in 2021.

Milly Bobby Brown Channels Britney Spears in a Sparkly Nude Bikini

Confession: I'm low-key obsessed with Millie Bobby Brown RN. Sure, the fact she's been busy promoting her new sci-fi adventure film, The Electric State (now available to stream on Netflix, FYI) is part of the reason why. Whenever she steps out, I'm excited to see how she's styling her hair—bleach blonde, in a Pamela Anderson-style bouffant updo, or Candyfloss pink?!—and what exactly she's wearing.

Donning everything from a totally see-through black lace naked dress complete with faux fur trim to a Paco Rabanne iridescent rainbow chainmail top and skirt borrowed from none other than Paris Hilton< /a> in recent weeks, it's safe to say MBB's style can currently be categorized as '90s and '00s perfection. Whether you've read these latest 'fits as subtle method dressing (The Electric State is set in the 1990s after all) or simply Millie entering her Y2K era, we think she's looked fab. De spite what those "disillusioned" trolls have to say. Fashion is all about having fun, and there's no better time to experiment with your look and find your aesthetic than when you're 21.

And it seems Millie is extending that mentality to her swimwear. Taking to her Instagram stories, she shared a throwback video clip of herself wearing a teeny tiny string bikini that is peak noughties main character energy.

Tagging the Pearls of Long Bay resort in Turks and Caicos in the clip and writing over the top, "take me backkk," Millie's beach attire tapped into the naked dressing trend with its nude colorway that was almost the exact same shade as her bronzed, sun-kissed skin. However, it was the sparkly sequin embellishment that adorned the cups of her triangle top and the coordinating bikini bottoms that were giving us early 2000s nostalgia. Remember Britney Spears' famous nude sequin bodysuit from the "Toxic" video?

We're pretty sure MBB's bikini in question is L*Space's Treasure Bikini in smokey quartz, though the exact style is now almost completely sold out. Gold stud earrings shaped like starfish and beige rectangle sunglasses completed the look, along with a red bucket she carried in one hand.

You heard it here first. Forget naked dresses, this summer is all about naked bikinis.

Jon M. Chu breaks silence on Britney Spears casting rumours

Jon M. Chu has recently broken his silence on Britney Spears biopic casting speculations.

The Wicked director addressed the online rumour that said stars like Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter and Millie Bobby Brown might be in the running to play Britney in upcoming biopic.

"None of this is true," wrote Jon on X (formerly Twitter) on March 23.

He added, "Sounds exciting but have not had one conversation about casting this movie yet. We are way too early in development. Sorry."

Although casting had not been confirmed yet, Jon spoke to E! News in November and revealed that he was very excited about it.

"I think there's huge potential about telling a great story, one that she deserves," remarked the movie-maker.

This was not the first time that the biopic, based on Britney's memoir The Woman in Me, sparked rumour mill.

It is reported that Britney's former assistant Felicia Culotta might have contributed to a few rumours when she spoke to a news outlet, suggesting Emma Roberts would be the perfect person for the pop star role in the forthcoming biopic.

Meanwhile, Britney previously gave a hint that she'd been working with producer Marc Platt to bring her story to life.

She wrote on X, "Excited to share with my fans that I've been working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt. He's always made my favourite movies… stay tuned."

"None of this is true": Britney Spears' biopic direct Jon M. Chu dispels rumors of starring Sabrina Carpenter, Ariana Grande or Millie Bobby Brown

Jon M. Chu, the director, has finally put a rest to the rumors surrounding Britney Spears' upcoming biopic. Online rumors suggested Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter, and Millie Bobby Brown were in talks to play the pop icon. "None of this is true," Chu wrote on social media, responding to the claims.

Addressing casting rumors

On March 23, 2025, Chu spoke out about the speculation with a post on X (formerly Twitter).

His comments follow several reports this week that alluded to Grande, Carpenter, and Brown being among the front-runners for the much-coveted role. Fans speculated at lightning pace on which actress could best capture Spears, creating a firestorm of chatter online.

The untitled biopic will reportedly be based on Spears' 2023 memoir, The Woman in Me, which hit bestseller lists shortly after it was released. The book chronicled her rise to fame, personal struggles, and legal battles, especially the one over a 13-year conservatorship that ended in 2021.

Jon M. Chu — the director of Crazy Rich Asians and In the Heights — was announced as the film's director earlier this year. In a past interview, he told out why he was excited to bring Spears' story to the big screen and said that the project "Has huge potential" and would like to do her story "justice.

Although Chu denied casting rumors, numerous actresses have openly expressed interest in the role of Britney Spears. Millie Bobby Brown had even recently revealed in an interview that taking on the role of Spears would be a "dream role" for her due to her admiration for the pop star.

"Growing up in the public eye, watching her videos, watching interviews of her when she was young… I see the scramble for words. And I don't know her, but when I look at pictures of her, I feel like I could tell her story in the right way — and hers only." - Brown said on The Drew Barrymore Show

But Spears herself rebuffed the notion at the time, saying she had no desire to have Brown portray her. Emma Roberts has expressed her excitement for the role, referring to it as a "true dream" opportunity. Fans have suggested other potential actresses, meanwhile, including Sydney Sweeney and Dove Cameron.

Although casting decisions aren't closed, what is assured is that Spears is "behind the project." Chu has stressed that the singer will be involved in how her story is depicted.

With Spears having fought to regain control over her own narrative under the conservatorship, her participation in the film could mark an important step in reclaiming her legacy.

As the film is still in early development, it sounds like we might not hear an official casting announcement for a while. And though fans may be clamoring to know who would take on playing Spears on screen, Chu's late statement appears to imply there have been no decisions made.

Speculations are likely to continue as the project moves forward, and we'll just have to wait and watch who it is, that takes on the iconic role of Britney Spears.
