âShe gets extremely nervous and anxious. Sheâs hard on herself and not very confident,â the source said.
Even positive developments like her engagement to Jason Trawick, 40, can send her over the edge.
âFor her, itâs all an input as stress. This is a lot of change at once for Britney. Sheâs coming undone,â the source said.
To her credit, Spears -- who has sold more than 100 million records worldwide -- has slowly rebuilt her career since her 10-day stay in the UCLA Medical Center psychiatric ward in early 2008. Her two post-crisis albums, 2008âs âCircusâ and 2011âs âFemme Fataleâ, went platinum, and she spent seven months on tour promoting the latter.
âJason and Britneyâs family wouldnât let her do X Factor if she couldnât handle it,â an insider countered.
âAt first they werenât going to let her because she couldnât do live TV -- they didnât know what she would say. But they went over it with Britney, and they trust her,â the source said.
âX Factorâ creator and fellow judge Simon Cowell, 52, isnât worried about Spearsâ unpredictability.
âThe network is using Christina Aguilera on The Voice as an argument for her,â an industry insider said.
âTheyâre saying the show needs a bankable pop star who will get viewers watching, whether they think sheâs ridiculous of they love her. Itâs definitely about tapping into Spearsâ fan base.â
Despite her nerves, Spears âwants to do a good job,â a source insists.
âThere is always apprehension about something you havenât done before, but sheâs looking forward to proving all the doubters wrong,â the source said.
