NYC landings include Barack Obama, Britney Spears and the space shuttle - Examiner.com

Stargazers in NYC might catch a glimpse of President Barack Obama, Britney Spears or the space shuttle today. All of them recently arrived in the Big Apple for very different reasons.

President Barack Obama will have a fast-paced schedule traveling from the White House to NYC in a single day. He left the White House this morning to arrive in New York at 10:45 am.

Obama delivered a commencement address at Barnard College. Tickets were required to attend the commencement with tight security for the President. The speech was aired live at WhiteHouse.gov, CSPAN and the Barnard website.

President Obama decided to speak at Bernard after the controversial statement made by Rush Limbaugh about a Georgetown law student. Sandra Fluke was referred to as a “slut” by Limbaugh when she testified about why birth control should be covered by insurance.

After the incident, Gothamist reports Obama said, “Whether you're a teacher, or a small businesswoman, or a nurse, or a janitor, no woman's health should depend on who she is or where she works or how much money she makes.”

Obama continued to state every woman should be in control of the decisions that affect her own health. When he confirmed his speech at Barnard, a White House official said President Obama wanted to speak to some of the next generation of women leaders in America as the father of two daughters.

Besides the commencement address at Barnard College, President Obama will also tape on appearance on “The View,” deliver remarks at a fundraiser at the Rubin Museum of Art and deliver remarks at a fundraiser at a private residence. After all that, Obama is due to return back to the White House before 10 pm tonight.

Britney Spears is in NYC to announce that she and Demi Lovato will be joining the “X Factor” as the new judges. The deal was signed by Britney's conservators, father Jamie Spears and fiance Jason Trawick.

TMZ reported Spears did not talk as she strolled around her hotel, the tony Mandarin Oriental located at Columbus Circle. When asked if she was excited to work with Lovato, Spears did slightly nod affirmatively. FOX will make the official announcement at the Upfronts today.

With stargazing in mind, just weeks after flying over New York City the space shuttle Enterprise was separated from the NASA 747 Shuttle Carrier at John F. Kennedy International Airport.

According to Times Union, the shuttle now in a de-icing shed at the Airport. Next month the shuttle will be relocated to the USS Intrepid air-and-space museum. By mid-July, the shuttle should be open to the public in its new permanent home.
