Britney Spears cleans up image for 'X Factor'; 2012 MTV VMA appearance ... - Examiner.com

"The X Factor" U.S. judge Britney Spears was ordered by Simon Cowell to clean up her image before she went on the show, if you believe a tabloid report. Meanwhile, sources say that Spears is being pursued to do a "surprise" appearance at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards. "X Factor" executive producer Cowell is keen for this to happen, since the awards show takes place on September 6, six days before "The X Factor" U.S.'s second season premieres on Fox.

This year, "The X Factor" U.S. is making a concentrated effort to be more appealing to females ages 12 to 24, who are also the core audience for MTV. With "X Factor" U.K. boy band One Direction and "X Factor" U.S. judge Demi Lovato as nominees and performers at the 2012 MTV VMAs, Cowell and others want to also put Spears out there on the awards show as a reminder to the public of her new role as a judge on "The X Factor" U.S.

Spears has made several talked-about appearances at the MTV Video Music Awards over the years. If Spears is on the MTV VMAs this year, expect her to have the "classier" image that she has been presenting to the public lately. Her rumored "surprise" appearance at the 2012 MTV VMAs would not be a performance but she would be a presenter or have some other role.

As for Spears' image makeover, according to the New York Post (a tabloid newspaper), Cowell ordered Spears to clean up her image before she went on "The X Factor." An unnamed source told the New York Post: "It was made clear she is expected to be impeccably dressed and made-up for the show. And none of those ragged hair extensions.รข€

A representative for Spears told the New York Post denied that Cowell had anything to do with Spears' image makeover. But it can't be denied that Spears has been showing up for "X Factor" auditions wearing outfits that look like she's at a business cocktail party instead of the "trashier," more revealing outfits that she used to wear in public.
