Britney Spears, who famously fought her parents in court to end her conservatorship in 2021, has sparked concern online.
Now, her father Jamie and mother Lynne are reportedly looking to step into her life again.
Despite their difficult relationship with the Grammy winner, the 71-year-old and 69-year-old are extremely concerned for their daughter, as a source told the US Sun.
Britney's dad reportedly believes she is showing "similar signs" of instability that prompted him to put the conservatorship in place in 2008.
Her father fears she is heading for a downward mental health spiral, which was well-documented by paparazzi at the time with her notorious head-shaving moment, and that the 42-year-old "could even die" as a result.
Britney's parents are afraid her "despite to feel free and do as she pleases" will leave her in "problematic situations" either through her own choices or being persuaded by others.
The source noted that the pop star's mental health issues were openly discussed during the court hearings in 2021 and that during the conservatorship she had a "stable controlled system in place of medication and therapy".
They also revealed that Jamie understands his portrayal as "the bad guy" by the Free Britney moment but still believes his actions saved his daughter's life and fears having to "take a similar step again".
Despite the conservatorship ending over two years ago, there are still tensions between Britney and her dad following her recent loss in court as she tried to get Jamie to cover the costs of the conservatorship.
The source claimed Britney feels like her father "stole money from her" during the 13 years when he was in charge of her estate, with the Gimme More singer estimating her losses at $36million.
Instead, the legal dispute saw Britney being ordered to pay her dad's legal bills last month, worth over $2million according to the US Sun.
Daily Express has contacted Britney Spears' representatives for comment.
