"I am so excited and blessed to announce my verbal commitment, for my academic and athletic career, to the University of Southern Mississippi!!!" Watson posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, Monday. "I am so thankful to all the players, coaches and family who have supported me and made it possible to get to the point I am today. This is a dream come true, and I am truly blessed!! Thank you to Coach Poole, Coach Izzy, Coach Aaron, and Coach Matt for this opportunity!! GO EAGLES!!!"
According to Watson's social media, she's a member of the Impact Gold National 07 18u fastpitch softball program. The outfielder and utility athlete has a 4.0 GPA.
Watson is the child that made national headlines when Jamie Lynn announced her pregnancy carrying her in 2007 while she starred on Nickeldeon's "Zoey 101."
"LOUISIANA has been the backdrop to some of the most important moments in my life, and itâs the place I have ALWAYS called my HOME, but itâs the incredible people who live here that make it such a special place," Jamie Lynn wrote in an Instagram caption in 2021 in the aftermath of Hurricane Ida. "...it has warmed my heart so much to see all our neighbors here in Louisiana coming together to help eachother during hard times, like they ALWAYS have. Iâve never been more proud to be from Louisiana."
Watson becomes the latest famous child to announce an athletic commitment to Southern Miss in recent years. Brett Favre's daughter, Breleigh, played court volleyball at USM from 2017-18 before playing beach volleyball at the school from 2019-22. Frank Gore Jr., son of legendary NFL running back Frank Gore Sr., played at the school from 2020-23. Gore Jr. is now on the Buffalo Bills' practice squad.
