WA-born pop star Samantha Jade reveals Britney Spears’ Piece of Me video clip almost became hers

Perth-born singer Samantha Jade has revealed how she became the centrepiece of a Hollywood biff with Britney Spears when she almost inadvertently stole the pop star's production set for her Piece of Me video clip in 2007.

Appearing as a guest on Nova's The Jermaine Plane on Thursday night, Jade recalled the bizarre events that occurred when she was living in Los Angeles in pursuit of success as a young musician.

"I'm sitting at home one day, my mum gets a call. 'Where's Samantha? Get her ready. She needs to be ready tonight. There's hair and make-up ready for her. She's going to have to learn some choreo and she's gonna have to work through the night'," she told host Jermaine D'Vauz.

Primed to be taken to shoot what she believed was the video clip to her new song, the homegrown singer was apprised of a sudden change of plans.

"There's a car that comes to pick me up. I'm about to get in the car, we get a call. Don't worry about it. False alarm, don't come down," she said.

"The next day my mum and I are at the Beverley Centre and I see myself on a split screen with Britney."

A celebrity-watch TV show had reported what appeared to be a bitter feud between Jade and the Toxic singer.

"Britney's new rival. How bosses pitted Spears against this pretty young pop princess. Is she the new Britney?" the show purported.

It then suggested there were "threats" and "backstabbing" between the pair.

The 37-year-old — who performed at Perth's Telethon in October — clarified how she believes the odd circumstances had eventuated.

"It ended up that the Piece of Me video... Britney was going through a lot at that time, and she wasn't showing up to the video set," Jade said.

"Jive (Records) had this video set, hair and make up, the dancers, the whole thing... No Britney. And my song was coming out at the time as well.

"So I think they just wanted to kind of put me in there. And that would have been my video. Isn't that crazy?"

"Piece of Me would have been my video!" she concluded.

Host D'Vauz later clarified the song Jade had recorded was titled Eyes On Me, written by One Republic's Ryan Tedder and produced by Timbaland. Though it was never released.

In 2006, she found some success in the US after recording the title track to the iconic dance flick Step Up.

Returning home to pursue her career Down Under, Jade was crowned winner of The X Factor Australia 2012.

Her latest album Love.Sick Vol 2 was released in August.
