Sam Asghari reveals the ‘weirdest thing’ about Britney Spears marriage: ‘So ridiculous’

Sam Asghari has opened up about his ill-fated marriage to Britney Spears, saying her conservatorship was the "weirdest thing" he was forced to confront.

The actor, 30, admitted that he initially expected the "Toxic" hitmaker's colossal fame to be the biggest obstacle he would have to deal with.

"One day I start learning about what the conservatorship is, and that's when I was like, 'Wait a minute. I thought I'm in America. What do you mean someone over the age of 18 needs permission from their parents?'" Asghari said on Kate and Oliver Hudson's "Sibling Rivalry" podcast.

"That was the most difficult and weird spiral thing that I've witnessed in my life."

The "Can You Keep a Secret?" actor said the "best thing" he could do for the singer, 43, at the time was to support her.

"I think the best thing to do is to provide support in that moment and that's what I did, I provided as much as I could," he said.

"This was my experience in life that I had to go through very gently because if you do anything wrong, you say the wrong thing…"

Indeed, Asghari supported the mom of two during the "Free Britney" movement as she fought to be released from the shackles of a harsh court-mandated conservatorship that controlled every aspect of her life for 13 years and had been spearheaded by her father, Jamie Spears.

Spears was in a conservatorship from 2008 until its termination in November 2021.

"One of the hardest things, I think, to deal with when you go into entertainment is your parents and the people around you, and everything that happens, and everybody that comes into your life that's taken advantage — that damages you because those are the people that are closest to you," Asghari continued.

"Usually, the people that are around you, the people that you allow into your circle, you kind of are vulnerable to them."
