Sam Asghari has a special message for his ex-wife, Britney Spears, and the "great compliment" she recently shared on social media regarding their short marriage.
"Distraction is always a great compliment. And that's what this next campaign, the MISTR Campaign, is — a huge, big distraction," Asghari, 31, exclusively told Us Weekly of Spears', 43, comments while attending the Blue Carpet Countdown for the First National prEP Day by MISTR on Thursday, October 9.
"And sometimes, you know, we can turn distractions into great things," he added. "So that's a good thing for me."
Asghari was previously married to the pop icon from June 9, 2022 until their separation on July 20, 2023. The former couple met in October 2016 on the set of Spears' "Slumber Party" music video. They went Instagram official with their relationship in January 2017, after Spears' uploaded a photo of the pair at dinner on New Years Eve. They were engaged in September 2021, after almost five years of dating.

Their divorce was finalized in May 2024. In an Instagram post in August, Spears said their marriage "felt like a fake distraction" to help her manage being "cut off" at the time from her sons Jayden James and Sean Preston.
Since their divorce, Spears has begun s lowly rebuilding a relationship with her sons, three years after being estranged from Jayden, 19, and Preston, 20, as Us reported back in September.
"The hardest years of my life were my two sons gone for those three years. I was cut off from calling or texting … my secret to survival was denial and a lot of tears," Spears captioned the Instagram post in August in part.
Asghari told Us he wishes the best for Spears.
"I just hope the happiest for her," Asghari said. "And like I said before that, I celebrate the past, and it's a big part of me, so I thi nk everything should go well for her."

Asghari also shared with Us that using his platform to support causes is "super important," and the reason why he is partnering with MISTR for an upcoming campaign.
"I'm responsible to do so — to give back to the community that I owe so much to, and I genuinely need the community more than they need me anyway," Asghari told Us. "But you know, it's to team up with MISTR — an organization that's already raising awareness. And we have a little campaign coming up, so I'm also here to tease that. So in about 10 or 15 days, you're gonna see a very bold, very sexy and very big campaign with me and MISTR."
Asghari is currently dating Los Angeles real estate agent Brooke Irvine, who he confirmed his relationship with in January on Instagram, though they had been spotted together since November 2024. Asghari told Us that the relationship has been going "amazing."
He previously told Us in April that their relationship was "not about the industry, it's not about Hollywood. "
"It's about what really is the most important thing, and that's being present, being in the moment and supporting others that are doing this same thing," he added.
