Britney Spears' ex-husband Sam Asghari is speaking out about her following her DUI arrest earlier this month.
On Wednesday, March 11, Asghari, 32 — who was born in Tehran and fled to America as a teenager — appeared on Piers Morgan Uncensored to discuss the crisis in Iran and drew a parallel between the women there and the pop star, 44.
"I mean, coming from the country of Iran and seeing women being oppressed, that's something that stuck [out] to me, and that wa s a value that I carried my whole entire life," he remarked. "And, you know, in a way, not comparing the situation whatsoever, she was also oppressed by many people that took advantage of her and sort of had the same experience as women do in Iran."

"As someone that's an advocate for women's rights and wants freedom of speech and wants freedom for everybody it was hard to believe and hard to see that someone in America was being oppressed," Asghari continued.
The "Circus" singer was in a 13-year conservatorship from 2008 to 2021, with her father, Jamie, serving as her conservator. Following the Free Britney movement to end her conservatorship, Spears married Asghari in 2022, but the pair separated in 2023 and finalized their divorce in 2024.
As Star previously reported, in the Monday, March 2, edition of Rob Shuter's Naughty But Nice Substack, sources claimed the Grammy Award winner only recently realized Asghari was from Iran as "geography just isn't her thing."

Also in the interview, Asghari noted he's "seen what she struggles with" despite their short-lived union.
"Even though we were married for one year, we were together for seven years, so my values for her, my respect for her, always stands," he stated of the mom of two, who shares Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, with ex-husband Kevin Federline.
The Traitors alum further stressed the importance of giving Spears the space to heal.

"I'm a strong believer that she needs her privacy, and everybody makes mistakes. If she made a mistake, I really think she's a strong woman, and she could come back from this," he said. "My word is for the press to stay away from this and to allow her her privacy and allow her a great recovery."
After her arres t, a representative for Spears told Star that "hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney's life," admitting it was an "unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable."
