CALABASAS - First-time homebuyer Justin Bieber paid $6.5 million for a 10,000-square-foot home on 1.3 acres in Calabasas, it was reported on Sunday.
The seven-bedroom "transitional French"-style house, formerly owned by Eddie Murphy's ex-wife Nicole, includes a library, a movie theater with stadium seating, a wet bar and a wine cellar, the Los Angeles Times reported. The grounds include a pond.
The 18-year-old Canadian-born pop star, who shot to fame with the hit "Baby," is set to perform at Staples in Center in October as part of his "Believe" tour.
The house, built in 2005, had been listed at $8.75 million. Nicole Murphy sold the property last year for $5.515 million, The Times reported. Tomer Fridman and Isidora Fridman of Ewing Sotheby's were the listing agents.
Separately, Britney Spears' Italian Renaissance-inspired home in Studio City sold for $4.252 million, well below its 2008 asking price of $7.9 million, The Times reported. The home was most recently listed for $4.253 million.
The five-bedroom, 7,453-square-foot home, built in 2001 on about a third of an acre, includes a maid's quarters, a master suite with a fireplace, dual bathrooms and loggia.
Spears, 30, released her seventh studio album, "Femme Fatale," last year and recently joined "The X Factor" as a judge. Nancy Sanborn of Prudential's Beverly Hills office was the listing agent. Josh Altman and Matthew Altman of Hilton & Hyland represented the
buyer.On the Westside, "Chinatown" screenwriter Robert Towne is asking $12.99 million for his nine-bedroom, vintage-1926 English country-style mansion on about three-quarters of an acre, with a swimming pool and rose and spice gardens.
Towne, 77, won an Oscar for his screenplay of the 1975 film starring Jack Nicholson. He also wrote screenplays for "Days of Thunder" (1990), "Mission Impossible" (1996) and "Mission Impossible: II" (2000).
Public records show he bought the property in the 1980s for $2.495 million. Towne is selling because he is ready to downsize, but he plans to stay in the Los Angeles area, The Times reported. Nick Segal and Rick Ojeda of Partners Trust in Beverly Hills are the listing agents.
In Bel-Air, a 1928 Tudor, once owned by Broadway star Mary Martin and known as the Peter Pan House, is for sale for $10.5 million.
The seven-bedroom house, with leaded glass windows and timber features, sits on about an acre that includes a swimming pool and guesthouse.
Martin, who died in 1990 at 76, was known for her stage role in "Peter Pan" and for "South Pacific" and "The Sound of Music." The singer and actress was the mother of actor Larry Hagman. Neil Smith of Heritage Probate & Trust is the listing agent.
