"X Factor" stars One Direction and Britney Spears have ranked No. 1 in two categories in Billboard's 2012 Mid-Year Poll, which was voted for online by the public. Billboard revealed the poll rankings on July 2, 2012.

One Direction was named Best Newcomer, getting 38 percent of the votes in that category. The TV premiere of Spears as an "X Factor" U.S. judge was ranked No. 1 (with 35 percent of the votes) in the poll category of Most Anticipated Event of 2012's Second Half.

One Direction ranked No. 2 in the categories of First-Half MVP and Favorite Billboard 200 No. 1 Album.

One Direction came in third place on "The X Factor" U.K. in 2010. Since then, the group has become the biggest act to emerge from "The X Factor," by having No. 1 hits and sold-out tours in several countries. In March 2012, One Direction's first album, "Up All Night" debuted on No. 1on the Billboard 200 album chart (the official album chart of the U.S.), making it the first time in music history that a U.K. group's first album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart.

Spears and Demi Lovato were named "X Factor" U.S. judges in May 2012, as replacements for fired judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger. The second season of "The X Factor" U.S. premieres on Fox in two parts on September 12 and September 13, 2012, at 8 p.m. Eastern/Pacific Time.

Unfortunately for "The X Factor,'" the show didn't even rank in the Billboard poll category of Best Music Reality Show. "The Voice" was voted No. 1, followed by "American Idol" at No. 2 and "America's Got Talent" at No. 3.

In a separate Billboard poll in June 2012, Spears was named Sexiest Female Artist.
