Yes, Rhode Island, they were here. Simon Cowell, Britney Spears, Demi Lovato and L.A. Reid "had a blast" in Providence last week, as Reid tweeted. The celebrities blessed Providence with their presence for the second round of THE X FACTOR auditions at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. Singers came from throughout New England, from as far as Wisconsin and even from home sweet home Providence. Always skimpy with the compliments, Cowell uncharacteristically commended the audiences and contestants. "We think the audiences in Providence are probably the best we've had so far," he said. He even let the world know: "In Providence, talent off the chart!" he tweeted. "What's in the water here?" In another tweet before the auditions, Reid had correctly predicted, "We are in the smallest state but I am confident it will have the biggest talent. Let's go Providence!"

THE X FACTOR judges had a deliciously curt and cute set of comments ready to be served to whomever offered themselves up to the plate. As always, Cowell felled his willing victims with that charming British accent, comparing one performance to watching a butter commercial. He also managed to snatch and read aloud Lovato's cruel notes, equating an older gentleman's performance to a boy band audition many years ago. But Cowell also took the lead in advising some young hopefuls. "Watch your left hand," he told one young fellow who unwittingly felt it prudent to place his left hand over his crotch throughout his performance. For another, Cowell drew on his extensive romantic expertise: "I think you've got to get over the girl who cheated on you," he said.

Spears, new to the show, had an exciting week, and it wasn't just because she grabbed everyone's attention with that Herve Leger by Max Azria red bandage dress--Simon stole her scooter, Reid gave her a smooch, and Spears ultimately became BFFs with Reid, according to both celebrities' tweets. Spears also caught on to how to give Cowell-ish judging advice--"it's like your voice is wicked in a good way," she offered one contestant. The star, who arguably received the loudest screams from the audience, spoke with a tiny voice somewhat difficult to differentiate from Lovato's. But one thing is for sure--the star uttered a hard and short "no" to a group of three who shrieked her hit song "Toxic."

Lovato, another new judge, also offered questionable commentary, implying some personal space issues. To one contestant, she said, "You're so cute I just wanna hug you and shake you a little bit...I don't know why." Reid engaged in a bit of self-analysis as well. When one contestant forgot his own lyrics, Reid found himself a little flabbergasted:  "Here I am thinking I'm some serious music dude and you got it all wrong and I love you!" He found time to be serious too, though: "There's something deeply beautiful about you," he said to one happy lady.

This week was full of musician folk. Right after LMFAO’s concert at Mohegan Sun Arena on Thursday night, the duo’s Redfoo stopped by the opening celebration of Mohegan Sun’s GLO At The Pool, the casino's latest nightlife destination. Even though these party rockers are set to perform early Friday morning on ABC’s Good Morning America, they never skip out on a chance to party. Redfoo joined the jam packed pool party headlined by celebrity DJ Clinton Sparks while his partner in crime SkyBlu had to sit this fiesta out due to pulling his back out during the concert. As ladies love Redfoo and his afro, security was extra tight this evening when they saw hoards of ladies trying to sneak into his private cabana at the pool club. Maybe it was the zebra fanny pack he was rocking.

Even Friday was filled with singing delights. Ziggy Marley lit up the stage at the Newport Yachting Center as part of the Nantucket Nectars Sunset Music Series, celebrating the release of his new album, Wild and Free. The Grammy award winner and philanthropist delivered some refreshing reggae after a strange and stormy day as part of his national tour.

The CBS Buzz Tour, including Providence reality stars Louie Stravato and Michael Naylor of reality favorite The Amazing Race, also zipped through the Ocean State for some crowd-pleasing activities for their fans at Cardi's Furniture. The visit was a precursor to their official nationwide tour beginning July 4, a tribute to fans for making CBS America's Most-Watched Network. Other reality stars that made an appearance include Alex Boylan of The Amazing Race and Burton Roberts of Survivor: Pearl Islands.
