It seems the Y2K trend is going nowhere fast. And while I have up until this point resisted getting in on the look – just seeing a pair of cargo pants instantly reminds me of primary school days – Maya Jama's latest 'fit may have just convinced me to change my mind.
Taking to her Instagram, Maya shared pics of herself in a strapless denim maxi dress and if the comments section is anything to go by, I am not alone in thinking this is a lewk. The dress in question featured a denim corset with two flap pockets on the chest and shredding and distressed detailing all over the bodice. The skirt fell all the w ay to the floor in a slightly flared silhouette, with the jewelled toes of her Amina Muaddi black pointed-toe sling-back heels just visible beneath the hem. A chunky silver bangle was her only accessory.
Maya captioned the post "Dinner with elite footwear & amazing women, lovely." and it was actually a throwback to the week before when the TV presenter had attended an event hosted by Amina Muaddi. Maya made sure to rep the brand's designs at the dinner and even showed off the shoes in a close-up snap shared as part of the image carousel.
But back to the dress, because we couldn't help but think of Britney Spears' *iconic* 2001 American Music Awards look when we saw Maya's pics. Yes, you know the one. Britney famously arrived at the awards in a Kurt and Bart patchwork dress alongside Justin Timberlake in a matching Canadian tuxedo.

Britney may not have known it at the time, but denim maxi dresses have since and will forever be credited to her. Her 'fit has been recreated countless times over the years by the likes of Katy Perry and most recently Dua Lipa, who sported a similar style last year.
While denim maxi skirts are an easy way to trial the trend, not to mention there are loads available to shop on the high street right now, we've managed to round up a few denim dress styles if you want to wear the fabric head to toe a lá Maya and Britney.
