There is something to be said for the days before the internet was as big a thing as it is nowadays. It seems like now whenever you turn around there is some sort of celebrity drama or an altercation between paparazzi and some entertainer or another that pops up on your newsfeed - all driven by the insane need to have bigger and 'harder' stories for the masses to consume.
Not that older interviews don't have this occasionally as well, with the interviewers going for shock factor above most things, they just didn't seem quite as blatant about it, as you can see in this old Britney Spears interview shared by creator Courtney Shane!

In this older, somewhat grainy clip, you can see one interviewer sitting in front of a much younger Britney Spears and they have obviously gone through a couple of topics by that point before the name Christina Aguilera came up.
Now, in case you didn't know, there was a lot of 'beef' between the two pop mega-icons, with many comparing it to the rivalry between the Backstreet Boys and NSYNC. The two occupied an extremely similar song space, with only a few 'minor' differences to help separate the two: namely, Britney being a little bit more of the 'innocent' and poppy one, while Christina had somewhat harsher edges and a bit more sexuality.
The two were obviously compared time and time again and the paparazzi at the time LOVED to stir up, or even create, as much drama and controversy between the two as they could. Why? Because it sold, obviously.
But in this clip there is a lot less of that drama, and a lot more of something else rather interesting. When asked about a recent sighting of the two of them at a nightclub and what went down between them, Britney hilariously recalls the fact that -no- there wasn't any fighting, but Christina DID wind up sticking her tongue down her throat. Probably not exactly what the interviewer was expecting or going for, but hilarious nevertheless.
It does sort of make you wonder how overblown the whole 'rivalry' was, because I don't know about you but I didn't go around making out with MY enemies... Or maybe I should have? Who knows.
