Adam Rippon Reacts to His Viral Britney Spears Meme & Teases 'Stars on Mars'

Being a homosexual is a true honor!

Adam Rippon is known for gracing our screens back in 2018 when he represented the United States in figure skating at the Winter Olympics. The star made history as the first openly gay man to make a Winter Olympic team for the USA, and the first to win a medal at the Winter Games.

However, it's his recent appearance on the popular show Celebrity Name That Tune that has the gays absolutely living. In a recent viral tweet, Rippon is referred to as a "homosexual" that won $15,000 for correctly guessing Britney Spears' hit song "Oops!…I Did It Again" after listening to just one note.

"Of all the things I've ever done, it's the thing now I'm most proud of. It is the highest honor someone in [the LGBTQ+ community] could achieve," Rippon tells Out.

Rippon is having a bit of a resurgence right now as he pops up on various reality TV shows. The next project he's tackling is the brand new reality competition show Stars on Mars.

The Olympian is joining an all-star cast that includes Lance Armstrong, Natasha Leggero, Ronda Rousey, Porsha Williams, Tom Schwartz, Tinashe, Ariel Winter, and many more as they embark on a wild journey filled with plenty of tough tasks in space.

"I'm going to go to Mars! What could go wrong? In the back of my mind, I [thought] this will be like a vacation. When I got there, it wasn't like a vacation at all. It was actually hard! This group of people had a really good time together and everybody was very funny."

The show splits the celebs into teams as they compete against each other each week. After the competition progresses, the astronauts vote one of their teammates "back to Earth" until only one remains as "the brightest star in the galaxy."

As an athlete, Rippon certainly brought his competitive nature to his team while traveling through space.

"There were less flops than you'd think, but it's exhausting mentally and physically. I wanted to do it because it's a once-in-a-lifetime experience! This whole format is so stupid, but in my favorite way. I'm also so stupid in this way! I think it's going to be great."

Story continues

Rippon is a trailblazer for the Olympics and athletics overall, with his accomplishments inspiring many future LGBTQ+ athletes to pursue their dreams and continue his legacy around the world.

"I wanted to be that thing that I didn't see when I was younger. I think that it's so helpful to have queer representation throughout everything: at the Olympics, on reality shows, in characters in our favorite scripted series. I'm just really grateful to be, for some people, that thing that they can see themselves in for the first time."

Stars on Mars premieres Monday, June 5 at 8pm ET/PT on FOX. To see the full interview with Adam Rippon, check out the video below.
