FilmMagicBritney Spears isnât the fixture she used to be on music charts around the world, but her work still lives on. This week, one of the singerâs most beloved releases returns to the U.K. singles chart in a new form, helping the masses remember how much they loved the original again while also enjoying an updated edition.
A new single titled âToxicâ can be found on this weekâs ranking of the most-consumed songs in the U.K. The track, credited to a musician named Songer, opened at No. 100 last week. Now, itâs rocketed up the list, hitting a new high of No. 46.
Songer isnât well-known just yet, so he leaned into an already familiar smash hit to introduce himself to millions. The hip-hop artist recorded a rap song backed by Spearsâs âToxicâ which has quickly become a hit. The music remains essentially unchanged, but the singerâs vocals have been replaced by Songerâs rapped lyrics.
âToxicâ goes by the same name as Spearsâs single, but the two are actually quite different. Spears doesnât even earn a credit of any kind on the new take, but millions are sure to recognize where the music came from. Spearsâs âToxicâ was an even bigger hit in the U.K. during its heyday. The tune peaked at No. 1 in the country, becoming one of the superstarâs most successful releases.
At the moment, âToxicââ"the new oneâ"may be just getting started. As it picks up steam and goes more and more viral online, the tune could continue to climb in the coming weeks. The track recently peaked at No. 60 on Spotifyâs ranking of the most-streamed tunes in the U.K., earning more than 100,000 plays in a day.
Meanwhile, Spears recently stated that she has no intention of recording new music, even though several reports claimed recently that her record label is already working with songwriters to present her with material. The superstar took to social media to insist that she will âneverâ return to the music industry.
