Whether Britney Spears will ever make new music again is unknown. She recently revealed that she has a new "project" in the works, but what it is exactly isn't yet clear. Just before that Instagram announcement, she stated she would "never" return to the music industry, so what the future holds for her career is yet to be seen.

While Spears may or may not be working on new music, she's still succeeding on the Billboard charts. This week, the singer scores a brand new No. 1 on one ranking–but it's not with a just-released track. In fact, she manages to rule with a tune that first premiered more than a decade ago.

Spears' "Selfish" rises to No. 1 on the latest edition of the Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales chart. The tune sold just under 9,700 copies in the past tracking frame, according to Luminate, which powers the Billboard rankings every week.

"Selfish" is not new to the Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales chart, but this week does mark its first trip to the summit. The tune has now spent just three frames somewhere on the ranking of the bestselling titles in the U.S. labeled dance or electronic by Billboard. Last frame, the song was down at No. 9. The cut debuted on the ranking back in 2011 when it was first released.

Spears has now collected five No. 1 hits on the Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales chart, with "Selfish" being her fifth. It's also one of her 13 top 10s on the tally. Throughout her career, she's pushed 24 tracks onto the list.

"Selfish" surged in popularity in the past week after Spears' ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake released a new single of the same name. Fans of Spears took to download platforms like iTunes in an effort to troll Timberlake, as the two have been at odds for many years since they split.

Spears' decade-plus-old cut isn't only doing well on the Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales chart. The track also opens at No. 5 on the all-genre Digital Song Sales chart. Coincidentally, she lands just one spot behind Timberlake's "Selfish," which bolts to a new high of No. 4.
