Britney Spears is currently not busy with her music career, which may or may not be over with. While she’s not in the studio or promoting anything she’s made in the past, one of her biggest singles has become a sales hit all over again thanks to an inventive new cover from an unlikely musical act.

“...Baby One More Time” is back inside the top 10 on iTunes as of the time of publishing, but it’s not Spears’ version that’s selling well again. Tenacious D, the rock band fronted by actor and singer Jack Black, recently released their own version of the smash pop single. Their take is much harder in sound and tone, and the masses are loving it.

Tenacious D’s version of “...Baby One More Time” currently sits at No. 6 on the U.S. iTunes chart. The song was released on Friday (March 8), and it didn’t take long for the tune to become a bestseller in America.

The rock band began promoting their new single shortly before it arrived on streaming platforms and download stores. The track went viral earlier in the week after the pair uploaded a fun clip of the tune on TikTok.

Tenacious D recorded “...Baby One More Time” for Black’s new movie Kung Fu Panda 4. The fourth installment of the animated series, which Black has fronted for many years now, was released on the same day as the single, with promotion of one helping the other.

In a press release announcing the soundtrack that accompanies the movie, Black was quoted as saying, “Britney, if you’re watching, I love you. I love the song. We’re very proud of it and I hope you like it too.” The rock band even filmed a short music video on the red carpet of the premiere, which was quickly released as well.

If “...Baby One More Time” continues to sell well in the coming days, and if it can pick up steam on streaming platforms as well, the tune might be headed for the Billboard charts. There are a number of rankings it could easily reach, such as the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales, Hard Rock Streaming Songs, or other similarly rock-focused tallies. It would be odd to see one of Spears’ most beloved smashes land on those lists, but stranger things have happened.
