Everything We Know About the Britney Spears Biopic

Less than a year after Britney Spears published her bestselling memoir, The Woman in Me, the book is being adapted into a biopic about the pop star's life, with Wicked director Jon M. Chu at the helm.

Earlier this month, Spears teased the film when she posted about working with producer Marc Platt, who is attached to develop the project. "Excited to share with my fans that I've been working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt. He's always made my favorite movies … stay tuned," she tweeted on August 1.

Here's everything we know about the film so far.

What will the Britney Spears biopic be about?

Besides Britney? The pop icon's memoir was released by Simon & Schuster in October 2023 and sold over 2.5 million copies in the United States alone. The story of The Woman in Me starts early in Spears' career when she began her journey to stardom at the Mickey Mouse Club, her complicated relationship with ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake, and the challenges of her controlling conservatorship. The film would likely cover a lot of these controversial moments in the Toxic singer's life from her POV.

When the memoir was released, Spears told her readers, "I poured my heart and soul into my memoir, and I am grateful to my fans and readers around the world for their unwavering support."

Rights to the memoir were won by Universal, which has a history of developing very successful biopics, including 2015's Straight Outta Compton and 2002's 8 Mile.

Who will star in the Britney Spears biopic?

The topic of who should play Britney Spears has already become hotly debated. But so far, most casting is existing only in the fans' imaginations.

Has production started yet?

There's no news of a production schedule so far.

This post will be updated.
