Britney Spears' Ex, Sam Asghari, Speaks Out on Post-Divorce Life: 'It's the Bed That You Make Yourself' (Exclusive)

Sam Asghari is opening up about his life since finalizing his divorce from Britney Spears.

The actor and model attended the inaugural amfAR Las Vegas benefit event for AIDS research at Wynn Las Vegas on Friday, Nov. 22 and reflected on his new chapter in an interview with PEOPLE.

Asked how he's adjusted to his new life without Spears, 42, the 30-year-old tells PEOPLE, "It's the bed that you make yourself, and you got to learn how to lay in it, so it's part of the lifestyle."

"You just got to keep it positive," Asghari, who attended the event with Brooke Irvine, continues. "You got to stay grounded and understand what the truth is and really just live with that rather than other people's opinions or anything like that."

Asghari and Spears married in June 2022 and separated on July 30, 2023. They settled their divorce in early May.

After filing for divorce, Asghari addressed the pair's split in a statement on his Instagram Stories.

"After 6 years of love and commitment to each other my wife and I have decided to end our journey together," he wrote at the time. "We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other and I wish her the best always. S--- happens. Asking for privacy seems ridiculous so I will just ask for everyone including media to be kind and thoughtful."

Since then, the fitness model tells PEOPLE he's "absolutely" been able to move on, but, for the time being, he's focusing on several work projects.

"There's a lot of work stuff that I'm doing that I want to let the work do the talk, and with acting, it's what comes next and all the work that you're putting in," Asghari, who's set to star in season 3 of The Traitors, tells PEOPLE. "So I did a few projects and very excited to announce it."

Asghari also opened up to PEOPLE about his divorce back in March and had nothing but positive things to say about his marriage to the musician.

"It was a blessing to be able to share life with someone for a long time. And people grow apart and people move on," he said, adding that he holds no ill will towards his ex.

"I've always hated people leaving a certain relationship — and at some point they told each other they love each other and they sat at the same table and ate food [together] — so I never understood when people part ways [and] they talk badly about each other," he said. "That's something I'm never going to do because I had nothing but an amazing experience and a great life, and that's always going to be part of my life, a chapter of my life."
