Did Britney Spears share a post gushing over Luigi Mangione? Viral post debunked


Claims of Britney Spears sharing an Instagram post about Luigi Mangione have gone viral online. This comes after the latter was extradited to New York and remanded to Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center. Despite the rumors going viral online, it is important to note that they are not true.

X page @DropPopNet took to the social networking site on December 20 to tweet, "Britney Spears thirsts over Luigi Mangione in a deleted Instagram post." The page also attached a screenshot that shared what appears to be a post made by Britney Spears' Instagram account. An image of the 26-year-old alleged shooter was shared alongside Spears' trending song, Criminal. The caption of the Instagram post read:

"OMG Just because he's a bad boy doesn't mean he can't have my heart Sometimes the"

The tweet had amassed over two million views at the time of writing this article.

Despite the tweet garnering immense traction online, followers must be aware of it being fake. Spears did not tweet about Mangione in reality. The account that shared the news is satirical and shares news that is not true.

Britney Spears did not tweet about Luigi Mangione

The bio of Drop Pop's X account states that it is a parody account. They have also clarified that the information posted on the page must not "be taken seriously." Their X page reads:

"Parody account, everything posted on the account is satirical and for humorous purposes, our posts are not meant to be taken seriously."

Furthermore, X's Community Notes clarified that "Britney Spears' Instagram account did not post" the aforementioned Luigi Mangione picture. Hence, it is safe to say that the singer did not swoon over Mangione, similar to other netizens.

Nonetheless, Britney Spears' song Criminal is going viral following Mangione's arrest, with many using the song to describe their liking towards the alleged shooter. The song lyrics read, "Mama, I'm in love with a criminal."

The latest Instagram post uploaded to Britney Spears's account showed her wearing a red dress and seemingly dancing for the camera. The video was captioned, "God bless."

What is next for Luigi Mangione?

Following the 26-year-old's extradition to New York from Pennsylvania, he is facing federal charges of first- and second-degree murder. The federal charges also include two counts of stalking and one count each of murder through the use of a firearm and a firearms offense.

The University of Pennsylvania graduate was not facing murder charges in Pennsylvania. He only faced murder as an act of terrorism, forgery, and firearm charges in the state. According to Al Jazeera, Mangione could face the death penalty if prosecutors seek the same.

Mangione was arrested in Altoona, Pennsylvania, at a McDonald's branch on December 9 after allegedly shooting UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York on December 4. He was found carrying a gun that was allegedly used to kill Thompson, a passport, fake IDs, and approximately $10,000 when he was arrested.
