It's official: the Britney Spears biopic is happening and fans are already predicting who will be cast in the iconic role. For months, Millie Bobby Brown Bongiovi has been the fan favourite, maybe because Millie has also grown up in the limelight in front of millions of adoring fans as Britney has.
The rumours have been getting to much traction that the Stranger Things star finally had to comment on the speculation when speaking with Mark Wright and Olly Murs on the Heart Saturday Breakfast show. Millie confirmed there has been no conversation about her playing Britney, at least not yet. But she would be open to it: "Any conversation with Britney I'm going to take. She's an icon."
Universal Pictures won a major bidding war to acquire the rights to adapt Britney Spear's 2023 memoir The Woman in Me into a biopic. The memoir chronicles Spears' mental health challenges, her rise to stardom and her 13-year long court-ordered conservatorship which put her health and financial affairs largely in control of her father, Jamie Spears.

Chu, who has previously directed hit films such as Crazy Rich Asians and Wicked. While, there is no release date yet for the film, fans have already begun putting together their dream casting. We've pulled together a list of the top contenders for the role of Britney, according to fans.
Millie Bobby Brown BongioviDespite denying that she has been cast for the role at this time, the 21 year-old Millie Bobby Brown Bongiovi is still being named as a top choice. The Stranger Things star's ultra-glam new look and blonde locks certainly help with placing her in the role of the popstar. In an interview with Murs and Wright, Millie confirmed she would love to take on a musical role and this would certainly be a great first opportunity for that.
Jodie Comer
Jodie Comer is another big name being thrown around by fans. Her equal parts humorous and dramatic role in Killing Eve has fans convinced she would do the legendary singer justice, especially as the film will likely cover the more gruelling aspects of Spears' rise to stardom as well as her conservatorship.
The Killing Eve star has also proved she has a natural talent for accents. Capturing Spears' southern drawl is going to be a major challenge for whichever leading lady snags the role, but we're sure Comer is up to the task.
Florence Pugh
Florence Pugh has proven time and again that she has impressive range, from her dramatic roles in Midsommar and Don't Worry Darling to her acerbic and hilarious characters in Marvel's Black Widow and Fighting With My Family. The English actress is seemingly capable of handling any challenge, and fans are eager to see her in a whole new light.
Emma MackeyThe Emily star has certainly been having a moment and now that she has officially left Sex Education behind her, she will have hopefully a bit more time to focus on Britney. The British-French actress has already shown she has a penchant for Britney pink after her role in Barbie. Mackey is already set to have a big year as she gears up for the release of the film adaptation of Deborah Levy's best-selling 2016 novel, Hot Milk.
Tate McCraeA new generation of popstar representing the legend feels fitting, which is why Tate McRae might be the perfect choice. She's already been dubbed "the next Britney" because of her hyper-sexed lyrics and impressive dance moves. If cast as Spears, this would be her first acting role. Though she has appeared on television before, first gaining attention on the reality competition show So You Think You Can Dance.
A Complete UnknownMany fans are actually hoping for a new talent to emerge for the Spears biopic. It would be a great first introduction to the business and a once in a lifetime opportunity for a Britney lookalike, talented TikToker or undiscovered singer. And while it seems that Spears herself is out of the running for the role, director Chu told Entertainment Weekly: "[Britney] is going to be very involved".
