Spears eventually worked out a deal with Fox to mentor on The X Factor for $15 million, a number that was a nice meet in the middle between the $10 million first offered and the $20 million Spears had a hopeful eye on in the negotiation process. According to TMZ, the number was reached after Spears had one pointed demand: She did not want to make less than Jennifer Lopez has been making on American Idol.
Sure, Spears has had far more problems in the public eye than Lopez, but sheâs also more of a sex symbol and, these days, far more relevant in the pop music world. Jennifer Lopez has gone on the record saying she is thinking about leaving Idol before next season, but I wonder if she does decide to stay, if she will have a similar diva request for Fox.
Although the first rounds of auditions are already underway, audiences havenât really gotten the chance to see Spears get her feet wet yet. Itâll be interesting to see whether giving Spears more money than Lopez will prove to be fruitful, or a $3 million dollar waste.
