Simon Cowell and Britney Spears argue about who's a tougher judge - Examiner.com

In interviews, "The X Factor" U.S. executive producer Simon Cowell keeps making these unbelievable statements that Britney Spears is the "toughest judge" on the show. Spears confronted him about it on TV with an argumentative denial on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," in the episode that was televised on September 11, 2012. Spears has denied it before in a passive and meek way in other interviews, but on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," she finally showed some backbone and stood up to Cowell and his false exaggerations.

When host Ellen DeGeneres asked Spears if it was hard for her to be critical of contestants, before Spears could answer, Cowell interjected and said, "No. I've never seen someone say 'no' [to contestants] so quickly in my entire life!"

As they talked over each other, Spears raised her voice said, "That's not true! I used constructive criticism!" She added, "I learned from the best," as she gestured her hand toward Cowell. "I prefer to be honest. I think that's the best way to go."

Well, actually Spears hasn't been that honest, since she keeps contradicting herself in interviews about walking out on some "X Factor" auditions. In some interviews, she admits she walked out of the auditions (and she's given various reasons why, such as having panic attacks or "X Factor" U.S. judge Demi Lovato telling her to take a lunch break), while in other interviews she denies ever walking out of "X Factor" auditions.

Spears' walking out on "X Factor" auditions multiple times was not mentioned in the puff-piece interview on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," which covered many of the same topics that have already been discussed many times in other interviews. Cowell continued to whine and complain about NBC scheduling "The Voice" U.S. in the same time slot as "The X Factor" U.S. on September 12, 2012 (at 8 p.m. Eastern/Pacific Time), the same night that Season 2 of "The X Factor" U.S. premieres on Fox.

"The Ellen DeGeneres Show" is pre-recorded and edited before it is televised. In the interview with Cowell and Spears, there was no mention of DeGeneres' disastrous stint on "American Idol," when she worked alongside Cowell as a judge. DeGeneres got much criticism for being too bland and irrelevant as a judge on the show, and she quit "American Idol" in 2010, after doing just one season.

Spears did open up a little bit about her two sons Sean Preston and Jayden James. When DeGeneres asked if either of Spears' children is musical, Spears mentioned that Jayden likes to dance. A home video was then shown of Jayden dancing in front of a TV.

Spears, who fidgeted with her hands during much of the interview, let Cowell do most of he talking. She also looked very uncomfortable in her matronly outfit and hair, which made 30-year-old Spears look 10 years older. She looked and acted more like a boring corporate businesswoman than a charismatic pop star. Spears also looked very stiff and awkward when DeGeneres brought out Psy to teach them the "Gangnam Style" dance.

I've already pointed out that these interviews that Spears and Cowell are doing are filled with contradictions. Cowell has often described Spears as the "meanest" and "toughest' judge on the show. And yet in a recent Celebuzz interview, Cowell described Spears as a "polite" judge and said nothing about her being "mean" and "tough."

At this point, all of this contradictory hype that they're foisting on the public has become very stupid and tedious. Cowell can criticize "The Voice" all he wants, but the judges on the show don't stoop to this level of contradictory exaggeration about each other when they talk about each other in interviews.

People will decide for themselves when they watch the second season of "The X Factor" if they think Spears is a "tough" and "mean" a judge or not. It's too bad there Cowell has described her in so many contradictory distortions that it's going to mess with people's expectations. This type of irresponsible hype is really just asking for a viewer backlash.
