Britney Spears recalls her favorite-ever performance that made her 'actually feel like a star'

Former Mouseketeer Britney Spears spent her entire life performing, but there's one particular performance that she counts as her absolute favorite and it happened in 2003.

The 41-year-old semi-retired pop star - who just sold her $11.8M Calabasas mansion for $10.1M - posted a throwback Thursday wistfully recalling the time she taped her ABC concert special Britney Spears: In the Zone.

'As I looked back at my career and I realized the one thing I did that required the least effort, like at all, was my favorite thing I have ever done!' Britney wrote.

'Three days of rehearsal, one day of dress rehearsal, and performing just five songs, shot to a T on a TV set! It took 45 minutes to shoot. I remember afterwards being like, "Wow that was easy, can we do it again?" The lighting, everything was brilliant!'

Spears memorably performed her brand new hit Toxic while clad in a flesh-toned tattooed top beneath a red PVC halter top and skintight black PVC pants at Gotham Hall in Midtown Manhattan.

The Hold Me Closer hitmaker shot the special in order to promote her chart-topping, critically-acclaimed fourth studio album, In the Zone.

Britney was far less enthusiastic about her lucrative 10 concert tours and two promotional tours requiring 'four trucks and 300 people' because after 'you've done it for a while, being in a different city constantly gets pretty draining!'

'Just shedding light on a time where it didn't feel like work at all - a time where I actually felt like a star instead of my family being the star!' Spears noted.

'On tour I can't remember how many women were on the bus with my dad. Either way, I would say they got a great deal wasting 15 years of my life! Great news though! Having this newfound independence gives me strength every day and the ability to stay hungry, focused, fearless, and honestly just be a good person! Here's to the magic of TV. Who would have thunk it?'

2003 was during the Mississippi-born singer's heyday considering she won her only Grammy Award for best dance recording, she kissed by Madonna at the MTV Video Music Awards, and she assumed more creative control with writing and co-producing.

It was after Britney's romance with Justin Timberlake but before her chaotic reality TV-fueled marriage to former back-up dancer Kevin Federline, two children, and being locked into a 13-year conservatorship controlled by her estranged father Jamie.
