Halsey Sends Love To Britney Spears After Singer Threatened Legal Action Over 'Lucky' Video

Even though Halsey reportedly got Britney Spears' permission to sample her hit song "Lucky" for her new track of the same name, that didn't stop the Princess of Pop from threatening to take legal action.

However, it looks like the "Toxic" singer quickly backtracked on her remarks and dismissed her previous comment as "fake news." Halsey, for her part, did not hesitate to show her support for Britney Spears, reminding the "Crossroads" actress that she served as an inspiration for her own music career.

Britney Spears Threatened To Take Legal Action Against Halsey

MEGA

Fans were shocked to see Britney Spears post a message on Friday night threatening to take legal action against Halsey over her new song, "Lucky," which sampled her original song of the same name.

"For obvious reasons I'm very upset about the Halsey video. I feel harassed, violated, and bullied," Britney wrote in a screenshot obtained by TMZ. "I didn't know an artist like her and someone I looked up to and admired would illustrate me in such an ignorant way by tailoring me as a superficial pop star with no heart or concern at all."

"I have my own health problems which is why I took down my IG account yesterday. I will definitely be putting it back up to show I CARE," she continued. "I'm speaking with my lawyers today to see what can be done on this matter. It feels illegal and down right [sic] cruel."

Despite her comments, as of Saturday morning, Britney's Instagram page was still down.

Britney Dismisses Her Own Comments As 'Fake News'

However, within the hour, the "Circus" singer quickly changed her tune and dismissed her own remarks as "fake news." In a new tweet, Britney wrote, "Fake news !!! That was not me on my phone !!! I love Halsey and that's why I deleted it !!!" Many fans were quick to agree that they doubted the first message was from Britney, who tends to pepper her posts with a lot of punctuation between her sentences, such as "..." and "!!!"

"Queen Britney Spears! No emojis? Not your post!" one fan exclaimed. "What? Did your X get hacked?" another follower asked. "Thank goodness it all worked out in the end, Queen! Whoever that was scared me. We love and support you Queen! You are the Queen of Pop!" a third fan chimed in.

Other followers ventured that the first message might have actually been a PR stunt – with or without Britney's knowledge – in order to push followers towards Halsey's video to see if it was really as "cruel" as her post made it seem.

Halsey Sends Love To Britney Spears Despite Initial Post

Even despite her initial post, it seems that there is no bad blood between Britney Spears and Halsey. After Britney Spears released her "fake news" tweet, Halsey reached out to share her support for the Queen of Pop.

"And I love Britney!!!! I always have and always will," Halsey wrote on Saturday morning. "You were the first person who ever made me realize what it means to feel inspired. And you continue to inspire me every day."

"We love Britney too," one fan commented. "Good. Two Queens. We love you both," another follower wrote. "I love you both so much," a third fan chimed in. However, many followers wanted to know if Britney had truly been hacked or if it was just a PR stunt to promote Halsey's new video.

Halsey Has 'A Lot Of Feelings' After The Release Of 'Lucky'

On Friday, Halsey took to Instagram to announce the release of her "Lucky" music video and talk about how difficult it was to put together. "The Lucky music video is out, and it's a lot of feelings happening over here. it was really challenging to incorporate so many conflicting emotions in just a few minutes. this campaign has been fun because I WANT to have fun, but I made a lot of this art when I was suffering," she explained.

"I have so many people to thank for being a part of this monumental moment in my life. From the bottom of my heart thank you @giancarla.coppola, Pascale, and @simonrex415, and my entire team for making it happen," she continued. Many of the comments were focused on her beef with Britney, with some asking why Halsey did not tag Britney to thank her for getting permission to sample her song in the caption alongside her long list of credits.

See Halsey's Video For 'Lucky'

On Friday, Halsey released the video for "Lucky," which outlines her own health struggles. One fan commented, "Britney brought me here" while another follower noted that the references to other artists went way beyond Britney Spears. "You Gotta Be, Lucky, Angel Of Mine, I Want It That Way, and the Toxic outfit... so many early 2000s references, sounds, and more! I love this!!!" another user wrote in the comments of the YouTube video.

"I don't understand how this is cruel. Britney probably misunderstood the message and I honestly hope they can work it out," one user commented in response to their alleged beef. "Same. I think it's very well made and meaningful," another fan agreed. Once they learned that Britney dismissed her original tweet as "fake news," the user replied, "Thank goodness!!! I adore Britney and Halsey. I'm so happy for this tribute and magnificent artwork. I'm looking forward to more of them."

Now that the two have seemingly buried the hatchet, fans are hoping that Britney Spears and Halsey will create a duet of "Lucky" in the near future!
