Britney Spears has not moved to Mexico.
The pop star originally told fans this week she moved to Mexico in an effort to escape "cruel" paparazzi attention, but a source reveals to The Hollywood Reporter that she has not moved.
"It really kind of hurts my feelings that the paparazzi make my face look like I'm wearing like a white Jason mask, and it doesn't even look like me," Spears said. "They've always been incredibly cruel to me, the paparazzi and pictures and the way they've illustrated me to be in some of it. I know I'm not perfect at all, by any means, but some of it is extremely mean and cruel, and that's why I've moved to Mexico."
Spears shared the video as part of a birthday message on Tuesday; the singer turned 43 on Monday. In a separate video, she quipped that she was actually "turning 5," and needed to "go to Kindergarten tomorrow."
Per TMZ, Monday coincided with the day Spears' divorce from Sam Asghari was finalized.
In August, Universal landed the rights to the singer's 2023 best-selling memoir The Woman in Me, with Wicked director Jon M. Chu attached to lead the project and Marc Platt to produce.
Spears celebrated the news on social media, writing that she was "excited to share with my fans that I've been working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt," and that Platt has "always made my favorite movies … stay tuned."
The Woman in Me, which was published by Gallery Books on Oct. 24, 2023, has sold 2.5 million copies in the U.S. Read by Michelle Williams, the audiobook was the fastest-selling in Simon & Schuster's history and was Spotify's top audiobook of 2023.
